Fun was the word of the day as Valparaiso held its annual soapbox derby local championship Saturday June 28th.  As is the tradition, the racers zoomed down the hill right on Lincolnway, the main thoroughfare in town.  With the cooperation of many corporate sponsors, our local A.B.A.T.E. club who served as volunteers, the Valparaiso administration and the weather, race day went of without a hitch.
Our local Champs are:
Stock Division: Abby Wester, age 8, John Simatovich Elementary
SuperStock Division: Kate Sikora, age 13, Chesterton … (5 comments)

valparaiso: Fall Fun in NW Indiana: Trick or Treat Fun Nite in Downtown Valparaiso - 10/21/07 11:28 AM
Once a year, Downtown Valparaiso closes down Lincolnway (our main thoroughfare) between Michigan and Lafayette streets to create a 'kid-safe zone'.
In this zone, they offer Trick-or-Treating, cider, hayrides around the square and other fun family activities.  This is a good opportunity to not only stretch out you Halloween celebrations, but also to familiarize yourself with our great downtown businesses.
You are guaranteed that your children are safe from oncoming cars as traffic is prohibited during this time.  Another benefit is that candy is given by area businesses and your can bet they make sure their treats are safe to eat.

valparaiso: Marketing That Serves More Than Just Your need For Business - 09/10/07 05:00 AM
Real Estate is a service oriented business. Whether you are a Realtor, Mortgage broker, Stager, or otherwise, there is a certain amount of personal service that goes into the job - no matter how far removed you are from the clients themselves.  I truly feel that the most successful in this field gain fulfillment from the serving of others and those who do it foe purely selfish reasons are doomed for failure. In a business such as this, trust is paramount to a successful career and trust often begins with some level of personal connection - even if it is just a word … (17 comments)

valparaiso: Snowbound in Indiana - 02/13/07 08:02 AM
The day before Valentine's, everything has come to a halt in Northwest indiana.  School is cancelled, agents can't get to their offices (only one I talked to today was actually in the office) and the presentation we had this morning is rescheduled for next week.
It started snowing last night and has not let up since.  Predictions range from six to 8 inches, but this is the land of the drift and the pile of snow on my patio table measures 14 inches.  The view is beautiful , but the drive is deadly so life stops until the salt trucks can make an … (7 comments)

valparaiso: The only Franchise I will ever review: DESERT MOON CAFE - 01/16/07 03:16 AM
Why is this the only franchise I will ever review? I'm not a big fan franchises, so I try to not to eat at them.  I love the uniqueness of independent restaurants and make it a rule to not eat at a place I can find at home when I am out of town. Example - why ,when I am in downtown Chicago, would I go for pizza at Uno's when I can eat at Lou Malnatti's instead? But, I digress...
Most Franchises are available everywhere and to everyone, so a review is not really necessary, but this is a brand new concept and is … (10 comments)

valparaiso: The First Effort - 12/08/06 09:00 AM
Well, Everyone this is my first swing at writing a blog.  It may hit or miss, but I'd thought I'd start out with a list of firsts - a reflection on 2006.  This is a list of things I experienced for the first time this year as a Stager in Porter County, Indiana.
1. A realtor that didn't hesitate to get on board with Staging (Thanks, Debbie)
2. A realtor to proclaim me "Her" Stager (Thanks, Linda)
3. A house that didn't really need to be staged (It's true)
4. My first feature article in the newspaper (it didn't bring any leads, but I did get … (12 comments)
