home stager burlington: Solving a Staging Dilemma - My Latest REALTOR® Magazine Article - 08/19/11 05:18 AM

Staging with sectional sofas can sometimes be a challenge, particularly if each section doesn't have finished edges.  What if you're dealing with a limited budget and that's all you have to work with?
Read my latest REALTOR® Magazine article How 2 Use a Sectional Sofa to Solve a Staging Dilemma on a Limited Budget to see what we've done with sectionals on a couple of our staging projects.
The property shown in the photos above sold in 6 days.  The fact that we were able to change the furniture layout and create a bonus room out of 'bits and pieces' of … (22 comments)

home stager burlington: Staging 'Outside of the Box'. Is the Face of Home Staging Changing?: REALTOR Magazine - 02/16/11 12:41 PM

I'm just back from the 2011 Real Estate Staging Association Conference in Las Vegas.  Yet again, it was jam-packed with information.  The conference gave everyone in attendance the tools they need to help bring their business to the next level.
There was an amazing lineup of speakers, but one that really stood out for me was key note speaker Matthew Finlason.
I won't give away what he talked about in this post, but let's just say that I plan on implementing more of this particular style of staging going forward.  I've dabbled in it … (14 comments)

home stager burlington: REALTOR® Magazine - My Latest Article: What To Look For When Choosing a Home Stager - 09/23/10 07:52 AM

Last year I wrote an article for my Active Rain blog that provided information on things to look for when choosing a Home Stager to work with.  It actually got featured on AR at the time.  It's such an important topic, that I felt it was time for the subject to be addressed again.  That's why recently, I submitted the article to REALTOR® Magazine for their blog Styled, Staged & Sold.
You can read the article here: What To Look For When Choosing a Home Stager.  I hope you find it helpful if you're thinking about adding the services of a Home Stager to your marketing program.  If you're … (14 comments)

home stager burlington: 'Staging' Your Flower Photos: A Neat Trick for Close-Up Photography - Makes Great Staging Artwork - 05/17/10 01:21 PM

An inexpensive way to add some extra artwork to your home staging inventory is by photographing some of the flowers in your garden.  I have a macro setting on my digital camera for close-ups, but I would always have the problem of other items appearing in the background.  That's not always ideal when you are having the photos blown up quite large.
Here's a little trick that I just learned for taking close-ups of your outdoor flowers.  Buy a piece of black construction paper and hold it up behind the flower(s).  Here's an example of the difference it makes.  … (20 comments)

home stager burlington: A Burlington Estate Gets a New Lease On Life - Home Staging Before & After Pictures - 04/23/10 12:06 PM
I had the pleasure of working on a magnificent property recently; a stately home in a much sought after area near the Burlington Golf & Country Club.  This home is a real looker - great layout, magnificent bones, outstanding exterior space - a true beauty.  They don't build them like this anymore.
However, it was in need of updating.  Aren't we all after a certain age?  The scope of this project did not include replacing broadloom, removing wallpaper, painting or any other updates.  Our work was really cut out for us to help show the potential that this hidden gem has and make it more worthy of its $1,750,000 price tag. If only … (13 comments)

home stager burlington: RESA Las Vegas Staging Conference - A Burlington Home Stager's Point of View - 02/05/10 09:28 AM

Well, I'm a little late adding my two cents on the RESA International Staging Conference, but I have an excuse since I just got home late Saturday night.  My Sister-in-Law and a girlfriend joined me for a few more days of Vegas life after the Conference.  Must say I'm "Vegased Out" now, but back to the real reason for my blog - the Staging Conference!
We couldn't have asked for a better turnout, especially for our first conference.  Once we hit 200 attendees, Shell Brodnax managed to pull another 20 tickets out of her hat to bring our total up to a whopping 220 professional home … (20 comments)

home stager burlington: REALTOR Magazine's Online Blog 'Styled, Staged & Sold' - I Just Became a Guest Blogger! - 07/28/09 12:39 PM

Aside from home staging, another one of my passions is writing.  I don't write for a living, but I sure get a lot of enjoyment from it.  Since things have slowed down a little over the last couple of weeks, I decided to put a little more effort into my writing during "low tide".  I don't know about other Home Stagers, but for me, my business seems to come in waves.  Everything comes all at once and I'm crazy busy, and then it slows down for a week or two.  I guess that isn't a bad thing though, it gives you a chance to … (12 comments)

home stager burlington: HGTV's The Stagers - Do You Want A Third Season? It's Time To Let Them Know! - 07/07/09 11:31 AM

[Photo from HGTV's website]
I hope that everyone has been enjoying Season Two of The Stagers as much as I have.  I may not have been doing reviews of each episode as I did last season, but don't think that means I'm over the show; in fact, the complete opposite is true.  I just found that writing the reviews was taking up a lot of my time.
Season Two is polished.  The Stagers has really found its groove.  The frantic pace of Season One has been left behind and replaced with a show that flows so well.  It's tough to cram so … (28 comments)

home stager burlington: What To Look For When Choosing A Home Stager - 01/23/09 03:40 PM

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With the growing number of home staging training schools popping up to make a fast buck, the result is a glut of "Home Stagers" in the marketplace with absolutely no experience and no idea of where to start.  Are you willing to put your client's largest investment into the hands of someone without the expertise necessary to get the results you need?  This could turn out to be a very costly mistake.
Here are some things to keep in mind when selecting a Home Stager:
home stager burlington: My Favourite Kitchen Staging Transformation of 2008 - 12/30/08 10:29 AM
Kathy Nielsen of Georgia Interior Solutions LLC, has posted another challenge to all of her home staging peers.  This one is to share photos of our favourite kitchen staging transformations from 2008.  And a challenge it was, as first, I had to establish exactly which room in the house the kitchen was.  After quizzing my Husband in a round-about sort of way, I figured it out - the room with the appliances :-).
All kidding aside though, these are photos of a vacant property that I staged this year.  I wanted to make the property feel lived-in, so I did a "company's coming" theme and … (10 comments)
home stager burlington: My Favourite Home Staging Transformation of 2008 - 12/29/08 10:40 AM
It's hard to believe that in 2 more days 2008 will be but a memory.  Where does the time go?  In reflecting over the year, I have met many wonderful people that have welcomed me into their homes and put their trust in me to help get their largest investment (their home) ready for sale.  They had many different reasons for moving, but one thing they all had in common was their determination to get their properties looking their best.  I also had the privilege of working with some amazing real estate agents this year.
Kathy Nielsen of Georgia Home Solutions LLC, has encouraged all of … (19 comments)
home stager burlington: 'Twas The Night Before Staging - 12/18/08 11:02 AM
 ‘Twas the night before staging and all through my head,
danced visions of accessories in my favourite red.
The only one awake, just me and my notions,
whirling round my head, stirring up emotions.
If only I could sleep, for the alarm will soon ring.
But I'm wondering what tomorrow will bring.
On staging eve, a sleepless night.
I want to make sure the job's done just right.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
 The alarm goes off, now staging day is here.
Will I be too tired? Of course not - never fear.
The weather man threatened to dump lots … (20 comments)
home stager burlington: HGTV's The Stagers - The Final Episode - Working With a Client's Existing Furniture - 09/24/08 05:54 AM
[Photo from HGTV's website]
As the old saying goes, "all good things must come to an end".  That was exactly the case last night with HGTV's The Stagers' final episode of the season.  I was glad to see that the season ended on a high note with Matthew at the wheel.  Alongside Matthew for this project was Rakiya, who has previously assisted him on other assignments.  Great news: Rakiya has moved up the staging ladder to Stager-In-Training.  You go girl!  She will now be accountable if a client doesn't like the end result.
The property in the spotlight this time was listed … (12 comments)
home stager burlington: The Stagers - Episode 8 - The Loft - My Thoughts (For What They're Worth) - 08/27/08 04:23 AM
[Photo from HGTV's website]
Has a week gone by already?  It only seems like a few days ago when I sat down to see the last episode.
Matthew was back in the driver's seat, along with the return of his friend Sara, who helped him out on a previous episode.
This time around, Matthew was given the assignment of staging a 1,000 sq. ft. loft that apparently was "right down his bowling alley".  The listing price for this property was $499,000 and the team had 4 days to pull off the transformation before the open house.
The homeowner was out of town, so … (21 comments)
home stager burlington: The Stagers - Episode 7 - Who Says Oil & Water Don't Mix? - 08/13/08 04:58 AM
[Photo from HGTV's website]
I would have to say that this was the best episode to date in my opinion.  Matthew and Tracey are the dynamic duo that brings this project to its successful completion along with Rukiya, their staging assistant.  Rukiya, as in other episodes, comes to their aid and makes the project gel together with her cool, "keep everybody calm" manner.  We could all use a Rukiya in our lives.  She commented early on in the episode that Matthew and Tracey are like oil and water and that they come from opposite design spectrums.  That may be the case, but … (8 comments)
home stager burlington: HGTV's The Stagers - Episode 4 - "A Comfortable, Stylin' Home" - 07/22/08 03:24 PM
[Photo from HGTV website]
With all of the hype surrounding HGTV's newest show The Stagers, I couldn't wait to watch Episode 4.  As a Professional Home Stager, I guess I am more critical of some of the shows that are out there on T.V.,  especially those that really don't portray what we do in an accurate way.
Episodes 1 to 3 have not disappointed (although I thought Episode 2 became more about design rather than staging).
Did Episode 4 find its mark?  At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I'd say the city got a little brighter last night. Wondering why?
home stager burlington: How To Bring Zing Back To Your Bedroom - 06/17/08 11:56 AM
Good, I got your attention.  If this is not the type of blog you had in mind, sorry to disappoint, but since you are here now anyway, you might as well read on.  Who knows, maybe my advice will be of some help to you, and it is free after all.
Some clients have asked me for tips on an easy fix for their bedroom when they are trying to sell their home.  They don't want to spend a large sum of money, but want to give the master bedroom an extra bit of life to appeal to potential buyers.
One way to achieve that is through simply changing the bedding … (13 comments)
