With my clients I will send them a list of all the homes for their area.  Then I will setup an auto email that send them homes as soon as they come on the market.
Time and time again, I have buyers that would like to search the mls themselves.  The problem with online searches is that they are a mirror(copy)  of the actually MLS.  What large Real Estate companies do is download the mls homes for that day or week, then upload it to their web servers so people can search for homes on their website.
