Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is always held the day before Mother's Day; I find it is an ideal time for a quick Spring Cleaning in the pantry. So if your letter carrier has not been by yet, grab a few bags, fill the bags up with any nonperishable food items that you no longer want or need. YAY! A tidier cupboard!

pell city: Hula Hoop for Fitness at the Pell City Civic Center
- 04/28/10 05:00 PM
Hula Hoop for Fitness at the Pell City Civic Center I have fond memories of playing with a hula hoop as a child but never thought about using the hula hoop to exercise and burn calories as an adult. I was at a fashion show when a young lady got on the stage and entertained us with a hula hoop dance. It was amazing to watch her perform her dance with multiple hoops going all at once. Later in the evening, I was talking with her and she explained all the health and fitness benefits that come from hula hooping. It sounded (9 comments)
Having moved to Pell City, AL from Maryland I had never heard the expression blackberry winter. While browsing at my local garden center, I heard the young lady working there tell another shopper that the plants she was looking for would be stocked after blackberry winter. Totally confused, I had to ask what she was talking about. She explained that blackberry winter was a old regional weather saying that when spring is here and you think it is time to plant, zap the cold weather hits again. This usually happens during early May when the blackberry plants are in bloom.

pell city: Wet Basement? Don't Call A Specialist Just Yet.

Are there any folks around Pell City or the Logan Martin Lake area that have problems with water in their basement? Reuben Saltzman an Minneapolis Home Inspector wrote an excellent post that might help you take care of this problem.
As I took a walk through my neighborhood last weekend, I noticed that a lot of houses in my neighborhood have sump pumps, because they kept discharging water. We've had a rapid snow melt here in Minnesota, and that means saturated soils... which leads to water in basements.

If you are thinking of selling your home in the Pell City or Logan Martin Lake area and you have an older home please take time and take care of any paint flaking problems you might have. Leslie Ebersole wrote an excellent post about flaking paint and regulations that could cause problems when selling your home. If your home was built prior to 1978, it could have been painted with lead based paint. We want to make sure none of this paint gets into our children hands, it could be very dangerous.

pell city: Pine Harbor in Pell City, Alabama Will Win Your Heart.

Pine Harbor in Pell City, Alabama will win your heart as it did mine. Relocating here from Maryland seventeen years ago, not knowing what area I wanted to settle, Pine Harbor kept calling my name until I called it home.
Back in 1965, an 18-hole golf course was built and named Pine Harbor Golf Club. The gently sloping golf course has beautiful views of Logan Martin Lake. Around the perimeter of the golf course are beautiful lake homes and off water homes built with well established trees and landscaping. A number of homes in the area have a front view of the Golf Course (2 comments)
Let me set the stage for you. It's early in the morning and the sun is starting to rise. The smell of coffee is floating through the air of your home. You get your coffee mug and walk to your covered deck, overlooking Logan Martin Lake, in Country Club Estates and watch as the fog dances across the water. Down at the seawall on your property, you see a mallard feeding her young. What a life you've made for yourself in your home in Country Club Estates. We all have (2 comments)

Located south of Pell City in Cropwell at 10179 Hwy 231 you will find, in my opinion, the best Bar-B-Que in the south. What a real treat it was to dine at Fat Man's Bar-B-Que the other night in their brand new restaurant built in the same location as the original one that burnt down 15 years ago.
Jon Davis, the third generation owner of Fat Man's, decided after taking over the restaurant in 2007, to build back the same style restaurant that his father (2 comments)
The weather forecast of snow in the Pell City area was a rare forecast that had all the children excited with anticipation. The band of snow predicted, blew through the area quicker than anticipated and left very little snow. During this time the temperature remained a few degrees above freezing and melted the snow on the roads. When the temperature did drop the roads and overpasses quickly froze into black ice.
The Arctic Blast we are experiencing here is not something the area is equipped to handle. The forecast low for tonight is 15; Friday nights low is 12 (8 comments)
I wanted to share with you some of the most beautiful sunrises you have ever seen on Logan Martin Lake. Our beautiful lake is centrally located off of I-20 about 30 miles east of Birmingham in St. Clair County on the Coosa River. The nearest town is Pell City Alabama which is my hometown. The lake has been nickname the "Lake of a Thousand Coves" by locals, and has 275 miles of shoreline along its approximately 48.5 mile length.
On February 14, 2008 I was driving to check on one of the houses that I had listed and out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw fire. I circled around the block and I couldn't believe what I saw, it was Avondale Miles on fire. I called 911 and she told me the fire department was already in route to the mill.
I know you are wondering why I am writing this post almost 2 years after the fire but I wanted to share with you some photos I took when Avondale was on fire. (1 comments)
The Pell City Christmas Parade was a huge success as the streets were lined with a large turn out of folks waiting for the festivities to begin.
As we were standing on the street in the crisp winter air you could hear the excitement of the children as the Christmas Parade was starting to move through town. The evening was seasonably cool and thankfully the rain had spared us.
With holiday spirit abound, you could feel the magic in the air as you watched the joy on the children's faces as the parade was moving past them.
