mason county: Corner the Market - 04/16/13 02:55 PM
I love looking for new ideas for staging and upgrading something less than fantastic. After all we want our homes to be memorable and stand out on the market.
My latest favorite idea is simple, inexpensive and knows how to make an entrance. Molding can make a difference and be the cleanest and best way to separate two unique colors.
There is a large variety of moldings available and you can paint or stain to suit. Any left over pieces can make ideal floating shelves to showcase picture frames or favorite items that tie into your theme.
I love repurposing and … (11 comments)

mason county: Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend - 04/12/13 10:47 AM
Ever have one of those days when nothing seems to go right, when it seems up hill both ways or Murphy's law has it out for you? I have and there is one thing that gets me through them, people who have been there too.
It does not cost anything to smile at someone (especially if they appear miserable) or to offer a listening ear when someone needs to share. being supportive can make all the difference in the world.
I have been fortunate to have people in my life that have been there for me. Co-workers that shared a funny experience have … (6 comments)

mason county: Marketing that Stands Out! - 04/09/13 06:04 AM
I am always on the look out for products to offer at Inferno Advertising that set my clients apart from the rest. The best way to do that is to find something that will surprise people when they see it and cause them to take a closer look, or as in the case of my latest favorite product cause them to STAND OUT!
I found these cute flip flops with the unforgettable "Don't Worry- Be Happy" imprint on them. They can be personalized any way you want for your business or just for friends and would make a great closing gift or memorable give away. … (2 comments)

mason county: Wordless Wednesday in Allyn - 09/28/11 05:15 PM
The Northwest is full of treasures. From the dew drops sliding off the limb of an ancient cedar tree to the morning mist revealing a lake born to reflect Rainier.
The newborn deer stumble up from the soft earth to breath in a new day. The  blossoms emerging from their nights slumber beckon them to breakfast.
Time changes everything as it drifts from season to season and century to century calling all to try again.
Life is full of moments that are made for each one of us. If we pause long enough we may be able to catch one and enjoy its … (2 comments)

mason county: Silent Sunday at Theler... - 09/25/11 08:19 AM

The Theler wetlands is the perfect way to enjoy a lazy Sunday afternoon. Birds dip and soar as they call to the winds. Small animals pause on the graveled path as if to consider the humans. Breezes carry through the channel of Hood Canal to retell a legend lost to time. The coy sun melts though the gray and understands that Theler is more than a moment to be found.

mason county: Before Mason County Washington... - 07/07/09 11:37 AM

Mason County is 967 sq. mi. in size, and is located at the southwestern tip of Puget Sound. Mount Rainier and the Cascade Mountains are nearby to the east, while Washington's Pacific Ocean coast is just an hour west. The county was created (from Thurston County) on 13 March 1854 under the Indian name of Sawamish County. It was renamed on 3 January 1864 to honor Charles H. Mason, first secretary of Washington Territory and acting governor during the Indian Wars. The first county seat was Oakland on Oakland Bay. The county seat was later moved to Shelton.

mason county: How the U.S. Census Can Effect You! - 06/05/09 06:51 AM
I recently attended a meeting where a Woman involved with the U.S. census came to talk. She was brief but her information was interesting.
In our County in the last census only 38% of the citizens were accounted for. This greatly effects funding and grants. The average is 67% - which is still low.
I encourage everyone who can to cooperate with the census takers. It will only take a moment of your time. In fact they have cut down the amount of questions they are asking in an effort to have a higher rate of participation. Please do your part.

mason county: Simple Saturday... - 05/02/09 07:29 AM
Clouds dot the blue sky and hover above the quiet waters.
Treasure Island Stands by as the waves rock the boats at the Fair Harbor Marina.
What will today bring? Many love to visit here and are likely to fill the air with laughter and aromas from the BBQ. A dog barks. Splashes. a boat rumbles along the shore where the land dips in and out. The Eagles dive and the Sea lions Bark.
Home is where the heart is. Home is here on Mason County's Treasure Island.

mason county: Fantastic Friday Pictures... - 04/24/09 06:04 AM
These little guys can be a lot of fun to watch as they paddles around the sound finding their day as they come upon it.
I  love the way it looks as though they have a plan even though we all know there is so much to do here in Mason County- that the possibilities of how to spend the better part of an afternoon are limitless. I have often contemplated whether it was a day to hike the twisty trails, kayak the sparkling waters, fish the cool rivers, float around in the lakes or skydive at the Shelton Airport. Come … (16 comments)

mason county: Wordy Wednesday... - 03/24/09 05:30 PM
Bursting out of a hidden world only to be glimpsed in ours for a moment.
Splashes sound and once again nothing is to be seen but the circles that surround the empty space...dissipating until he surfaces again.
The deep waters of Hood Canal hide the native Ocras. The Olympic Mountains surround them and the Stoic Eagles fly watch over them. what a day to be.
What a beautiful moment in time.

mason county: Semi Silent Sunday... - 03/22/09 04:06 AM
Tis a beautiful evening at the LakeLimerick Inn. St. Patty's day has past but tis still all about the Irish here. Every street harkens back to a place on the Emerald Isle where life is seen in vaying shades of green. Today is like the rest in many ways, but it is new, and will never be repeated again even if you can see it twice in the cool beckoning reflection of the deep lake.

Kayaking can be one of the simplest pleasures in life. And if you are from Mason County this could be an amazing staycation... like no other.
Lake Cushman in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains is a great kayaking destination as is the Skokomishand Tahuya Rivers.

mason county: Almost Wordless Wednesday... on Hood Canal - 03/11/09 05:56 AM
Hood Canal in Mason County can be a busy place. It seems that a lot of people like to come out here to just unwind.
One of the chosen ways to get here is to land a float plane out front of your house or cabin. Alderbrook is just across the water here and it makes it convenient to just take the boat across for a day at the spa and then back home again. The Hood Canal life is one of a kind! To find out more about this area or to shcedule a tour visit Dinah Lee griffey … (24 comments)

mason county: Fishing in the Skok Valley... - 03/10/09 02:15 PM
One of the best things to do in Mason County is fish. The only question is where. From the deep lakes to the running rivers opportunities abound in our area. The Skok valley is a prime example of good fishing waters. As you can see in the pictures any day is a great day for catching the big one!

mason county: Picture This... - 01/03/09 02:09 PM

The shadowy night is drifting in, and the air is crisp and mellow. A sparkling fire warms. The crescent moon above glows down on the quiet streets of Allyn below. Gentle waters swallow the pebbled shore. Clouds drift and swirl, only to hide behind the whispering stars.Telling their secrets as the years of time carefully unroll. I gather my thought into a pile- and in thinking of them...SMILE.

We have yet another agent from Windermere Peninsula Properties join Active Rain today. I would like all of you to welcome Peter Cahan. He has been at our office for several years now, and is quite the professional. He golfs, enjoys wine, and loves to go off in his boat. Peter has three daughters, and a lovely wife Joanne who does her best to keep him in line. She is a saint...LOL.
Peter is a great guy and will be a great asset to Active Rain. Please welcome him, and give him a few pointers on the best groups to join!

mason county: Wordless Wednesday - 12/10/08 03:03 PM
This is a bridge in Timberlakes that leads to a small island. It is the perfect place to sit back and enjoy nature, or just read a good book. I wanted to find a picture today that showed are simple winters here in the Northwest, because we are expecting snow Friday, and the this is not typical for us. I can't wait to post the pictures!

mason county: Mystery Rock - 12/05/08 07:31 AM
Did you know that in Allyn, Washington along the North Bay, of Case Inlet we have a mystery rock? It was discovered many years ago and appears to have ancient Indian writing on it. I was told that someone had tried to excavate it a long time ago, but after digging hundreds of feet down was not able to locate the bottom. Many of the locals that have been here for years know of this rock, but I am not sure how many of the new comers do. Allyn has a lot of large rocks just sitting around, and not really attached … (2 comments)
