South Carolina Department of Transportation has received $635,500 in funding to extend the Edisto Beach Bike Path. The first phase will go to Botany Bay Road. The bike path currently ends at the corner of HWY 174 and Palmetto Road. The funding was secured largely because of the Edisto Island National Scenic Byway (HWY174).
The four-foot wide lanes, located on both sides of the road will accommodate both bike and pedestrian usage allowing byway travelers to travel safely from the beach to the Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area. This will give residents and visitors access to over 5500 … (1 comments)

Whaley's has re-opened after a couple of weeks for a re-model. The renovation included all new tables and booths. They removed the pool table and games. In the old game room there are six new booths and about six new tables. The stage has been moved to the other side of the front door. The bathrooms have been completely re-done, top to bottom. Benefit for the 2 Families that were displaced by The Condo Fire The benefit will begin at 11:30 tomorrow, January 25, at the Wyndham Ocean Ridge Resort Recreation Building. The families lost everything in the fire so any donations will be greatly appreciated. They do not have a list but Sarah told us tonight that clothes for the girls is top priority. Sadly we lost an entire building last night. We were fortunate that it happened this time of year. There was only two families living there and they are ok. They lost everything, they have 2 daughters ages 9 and 7. We are already getting items together for them. Edisto is a very tight knit community. Our island has less than 20 condo associations mostly located inside our only resort, Wyndham Ocean Ridge. We do not know how the fire started, yet.
