seo: Worth The View | Will Google Ever Assess The Value of Photos Like it Does Text? - 06/18/11 04:27 PM
A picture is worth a thousand words, except when it comes to Google's assessment of your content. In this regard, you have to tell Google what the photograph is about because Google, as smart as it is, hasn't come up with a way to judge the quality of a photograph. What's left? A description in the alt or title tag and Google's assessment of other factors like how long someone stays on a page with an image. Qaulity images can generate enough interest for people to stay longer on a website, which is a Google ranking algorithm, but keeping someone on … (0 comments)

seo: SEO And The Link Wheel - 12/18/10 05:20 AM

In simple terms, a link wheel is a group of websites that use one of a few, or usually two, strategies that end up giving the punch of their link juice to a target website. Google pretty much allows this as long as the websites are not automated, spam-filled or completely irrelevant. I've seen many areas where real estate organizations employ this strategy very successfully to dominate much larger organizations on the web.
Method one: All websites point to the target website. Each spoke contributes a little more to the target site. The sites, if small, are relatively invisible. They … (0 comments)

seo: How Many Are Out There? The New Web "Consultant" - 09/11/10 11:38 AM

I helped a real estate agent right here from the Rain with her Wordpress blog. She had a theme she had purchased, and as is common to quite a few custom themes, it "re-routed" some of the common conventions in Wordpress, making it something closer to a standard static website with blog elements and some fancy Jquery type stuff. The back-end had lots of selections and controls to customize the look and functionality- again, typical for custom Wordpress themes.
Interestingly, she had hired someone to administer and set up this Wordpress site, which they did a fair job of.

seo: SEO is Common Sense - 08/25/10 12:28 PM
With all the nuances of SEO and tips and tricks about ranking in Google, etc. it is a good idea to re-visit some common sense principles.
1. "Hi, I'm Chevy Chase and you're not!" The famed actor explains plenty in that famous one-liner. Tounge-in-cheek it may be but if you're competing against well established web entities for coveted keywords, you can't expect to get even close without a lot of work.
2. Say what you mean and mean what you say. If you want to rank well for Jupiter Island, the most expensive location in the US, you'd better be prepared … (2 comments)

seo: Title Differences in SEO for YouTube - 04/10/10 09:30 PM
I saw what was a completely subtle nuance of difference in a title on YouTube result in an omission of a keyword. I'm referring to my recent post for Calder Ranch by Capital Pacific Homes which will not show up in any search from Google to Google Video to YouTube on the keyword "Calder Ranch", the word homes or the phrase Capital Pacific must be used. The video will not show up in search with only the words "Calder Ranch." Now it seems I face the same problem with another video for selling used machinery. Sell Your Machinery with Alan Ross shows up … (1 comments)

seo: I'm Just Sitting Here in Starbucks - 03/03/10 10:54 AM
Or so It would look, as if I'm just browsing the web but I'm actually posting videos to YouTube fast and furious and then optimizing them onsite, and offsite.
Now I went and forgot my call to action on one of the videos. That means change it and hope YouTube and Google both index the changes, or just post another one. I think I'll do the latter.

seo: SEO For Video - 02/28/10 01:25 PM
Often when you search Google, you'll see a "Video results" link somewhere on the page with all the other text links. How does that link end up on the page?
SEO for video is still an emerging skillset. First, most people don't use video- they're apprehensive of appearing on video. YouTube is the 2nd most searched website. If you're not using video, you're missing out on a low-competition avenue for your message.I posted a video for a client, performed 20 minutes of SEO and back-links and now it's on page one for his top keyword, ahead of plenty of competition.recent posts: … (3 comments)

seo: Boring SEO Stuff In Orange County - 01/01/10 03:45 PM
Boring unless it's your posts not being indexed by Google and you're trying to analyze why. Then you get more interested. Google seems to be shifting in it's priorities. A year ago I could post on Blogger and expect a ten or twenty percent indexing ratio. Wordpress.com was and is little better. Wordpress blogs, a different story. Very high ratio of successful posts, but lately, that indexing has started taking longer- 24 to 48 hours on my hosted sites. I'm busy assessing whether this is another algorithm change or a penalty for over-optimization. (too many of like kind backlinks too fast) … (5 comments)

seo: SMACK! Just On The Wrist, but OW! - 12/29/09 05:41 AM
Google will make you stand in the corner for infractions. The venerable search engine doesn't tell you you're in the corner, it just lets you find out when you examine your indexing and find that something you did caused a raised eyebrow. Google doesn't really say much when it imposes its discipline, it just lets you stew and figure it out. Usually, a recent change in strategy is the culprit. A little over-promotion of a website or too many back-links with the exact same anchor text. Google may give you a day or two with no love, or a week or … (0 comments)

seo: Change is Good, Right? But My Post Was Replaced By Digg. I'm an SEO Expert? Still Learning - 12/26/09 06:01 AM
I had a post on my website on Page One around position 7. It was a great informative post about keyword research and analysis. I decided to give my websites a little push using Digg. Now, the Digg post is on page one and my post is on page two. hmmm... I'm not really saying not to use Digg or other bookmarking sites, because they drive traffic, but to be sure, Digg has a lot of clout, and if your presence on page one is delicate, you could trip over yourself. Here's the article in case you missed it

seo: Orange County SEO | Search Engine Marketing Expert Dave Keys - 12/25/09 02:14 PM
I recently wrote a post about Orange County SEO here on Activerain. I wrote a very scant entry, scarcely long enough for a search engine like Google to index. SEO is such a competitive field in itself that I expected little result from one article, but I followed the rules for a post. Rules endorsed by Orange County SEO expert, Steve Wiideman. Steve is actually recognized as the top expert in SEO- Google searches will quickly reveal that. One thing that upset the status quo a few weeks ago was the little post I wrote, that for a while, appeared ahead … (2 comments)

seo: Orange County SEO Expert | How to Be Your Own SEO Expert - 12/14/09 06:15 AM
If you're a DIY type of person then read on. Before you start any kind of SEO campaign, do what the SEO experts do first. Research. Steve Wiideman, the number one SEO expert (yes, just type "SEO Expert" into Google) calls this the Analyze layer in his fourfold SEO model. Analyze what your market is. That’s likely already done on an informal basis- you know what you’re selling or providing as a service and you know where you’re offering it, right? Next is a little bit of art and applied intuition. Your market may or may not be typing your product or … (0 comments)
