austin tx: Austin Ranks #2 for Fastest Growing US Metro Areas - 04/06/12 03:22 AM
Austin TX ranks #2 for the top 5 Fastest Growing US Metro areas, by percentage.  This includes the entire Austin area and it's suburbs and surrounding areas of Round Rock down to San Marcos. To me, San Marcos is not part of Austin, but the census has included it. It's all of Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell Counties. What does this mean for the Austin area? It means Austin added 67,230 people in a 15 month period from when the last census was done through July 2011.  That's 4482 people a month!  No, not everyone is moving here from other … (3 comments)

austin tx: Austin TX Weather - 70 Triple Digit Days Broke the 1925 Record! - 08/25/11 02:12 PM
Austin TX Weather Broke the TRIPLE digit Record yesterday set back in 1925 with 70 days over 100!!  I rather just move on from this record heat, but look at what the rest of the week is supposed to look like...
YIKES!  Won't the heat go away?!  At least, can we have some hot, humid rain to go with the heat as our lakes are too low?!  Right now, Lake Travis is at its fourth lowest level ever of 635.18 feet.  In 2009, it was at its third lowest level at 629.83 feet. If we don't get some rain, we're going … (7 comments)

austin tx: Can FedEx and UPS Create More Direct Routes for Deliveries? - 08/03/11 06:02 AM
Are FedEx and UPS and all those other package delivery companies charging more because of their routes?  I think if they designed more direct routes for delivery, we wouldn't have to pay so much for their gas and truck maintenance, in addition to the salaries of the workers spending the unnecessary extra time driving out of the way. What's the scenario?  I have a buyer in Temple TX buying a house here in Austin TX. It's about an hour away. Per the contract we executed yesterday, he had to deliver a check within 2 days so instead of risking the post … (3 comments)

austin tx: Dallas Cowboys vs Texas Longhorns - 03/16/11 02:56 AM
My daughter, Alyssa, goes to preschool at Primrose in Bee Cave TX. They're having fun this Spring Break week with different dress up themes. Yesterday was for everyone to wear their favorite team jersey.  Like a 3 year old has a favorite team... of course it's the parents pushing their favorite team.  Or, in this case, it's the Uncle...
My brother got Alyssa this cute Cowboys cheerleading outfit when he was in town a couple of months ago. This was the first opportunity to wear it, so she did. She didn't understand who or what the Cowboys were. She just kept … (11 comments)

austin tx: Austin TX Ranks at the Top of the Newest Survey by Mens Health - Can you Guess? - 09/14/10 04:05 AM
As you know, Austin TX ranks high on many many surveys that have been done in the past. Surveys about Best Place to Raise a Family and Best in Recession Recovery and Lowest Unemployment Rate, to name a few...Here's a survey just released by Men's Health magazine that puts Austin TX at the top of another list, and you won't believe it... Austin TX is the Capital of Copulation. Yes, Austin TX has been named the most sexually active city in the country with Dallas right behind as #2.You might be thinking, Huh? austin tx: Speechless Sunday - More Austin TX Creatures - 09/05/10 11:59 AM
This spider has been making its rounds around our house. It started on our master bedroom window. Then is was on the back porch. I guess there weren't enough insects, so she moved to the kitchen window... and her last stop thus far is the side garage door.  Why do I call her a "she"? According to the internet, the females get to be just over two inches whereas the males are barely 3/4 inches.  This one is HUGE!

austin tx: Austin TX - Kiplinger's 10 Best Cities for the Next Decade - Austin #1 - 08/30/10 05:22 AM
Austin TX - Number 1 for Kiplinger's 10 Best Cities for the Next Decade. What was the focus of this latest survey? "We focused on places that specialize in out-of-the-box thinking."  Austin TX definitely has that!"New ideas generate new businesses... where innovation works, it really works..."But what else gets people to the top places to begin with? It boils down to the basics of culture, music, and arts.  People have to want to move here. More and more, I hear about people moving here without jobs thinking they'll be able to find one easier by being local.  "...neighborhoods and recreational facilities … (8 comments)

austin tx: REBAR Camp Austin TX - 03/16/10 12:27 PM
REBAR CAMP - Real Estate Bar Camp - Austin TX at Third Base on 6th street was last week.  I met a lot of new people as well as saw old friends.

This was my first experience with a REBar Camp, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was told this was a little unusual this time around.  There were five sessions, three groups at a time. A couple of times, there were two groups talking about the same thing at the same time. Also, I found it very pitchy.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  There were … (16 comments)

austin tx: Building a Family of Snowmen... the video - 02/23/10 07:06 AM
Earlier, I posted the pictures of all the fun in the snow in Bee Cave TX.  Below is the video showing the making of the snowmen as well as a time lapse of the snow accumulating in the yard. It was amazing how fast it piled up!

austin tx: Wordless Wednesday - Confused Trees Not Changing Colors - 11/18/09 06:12 AM

I'm not sure this tree knows what season it is.  This tree is in Falconhead Bee Cave TX, but this is what most all the trees look like in and around Austin TX right now.  It's been unseasonably warm, and the trees aren't sure to change colors and drop their leaves yet...

austin tx: Silly Saturday- My Very Own UT Longhorn Cheerleader - 10/17/09 02:24 AM
Here is my very own University of Texas Longhorn Cheerleader!  She is dressed and ready for today's game against that Okie team, the Red River Rivalry.

UT has won 3 out of the last 4 games, and OU is coming off of some injuries, so if I were to bet on the game, I would put all my money on UT!
Hook 'em!!

austin tx: Austin TX Wildlife - A Creature Around Every House - 10/15/09 09:30 AM
Austin TX Wildlife in and around new home communities is always interesting to see.

Here is my newest find on our back steps.  There are two, but I couldn't get the other one in a good pose. As you can see, compared to the penny, these are tiny little guys.  So cute.  Alyssa and I were poking them with blades of grass to make them hop.  Each time, Alyssa would say, "Ribbit ribbit." Here are some of the other Austin TX Wildlife creatures I've found in and around my home.
The Mommy Toad to these two babies, I assume The … (19 comments)

austin tx: What kinda Bike is This? Is it Street-Legal? - 08/23/09 05:27 AM
I was heading to an appointment yesterday morning, and this interesting vehicle passed me and I had to do a double take.  It then pulled in front of me, and I decided to take a picture so I could ask my husband if this was a street-legal bike.

I few miles later, I had to change lanes to turn, and I ended up right next to it, and thought to take this picture.  It's a little stretched, but not much.  This thing is long!!

I can't believe it was keeping up with 65 mph speeds!  It looks like it … (18 comments)

austin tx: The Iron Cactus Restaurant - One Horrible Experience - 08/10/09 12:31 PM
I don't normally post negative things about different places I visit, but I recently had such a bad experience, I'm hoping someone in higher management at the restaurant sees this and helps retrain the wait staff.
I waited tables and bartended through college.  I was a head-wait and also a trainer. That means, I trained people how to treat people when they came into my restaurant.  With that, I never expect to get wonderful service when I go places because no one trains people like I do, but I expect somewhat decent service.
This was my experience at The Iron Cactus … (22 comments)

austin tx: Discount Tire in Bee Cave TX- Great Customer Service - 08/03/09 04:01 AM
How did I start my Monday morning?  With a screw... in my tire!  My husband thought it was just on the surface, so he started to pull it out, however, he heard the hissing sound and immediately pushed it back in.
That left me calling to find some place nearby who patches holes in tires.  My husband's initial reaction was for me to go to Walmart, they do everything.  I called, it was $9.50.  That's not bad, but it's also 12 miles away.  What could happen with the tire in 12 miles?  I pictured myself stranded on the side of the … (14 comments)

austin tx: Austin Energy is Swtiching to Automated Meters - 07/20/09 08:36 AM
Austin Energy is going around to all 400,000 of their customers and replacing their meters with new ones that are automated and very accurate, supposedly.
They sent out a notice in our bills this month giving people a heads up that their electric bills might be higher than usual.
Why?
... Because they've been testing the old meters as they're being replaced, and several have been running "slow".
What does this mean?  It means people have been using electricity and not paying for it!  They're going to hate these new meters!
Per Austin Energy, if you have any questions about your … (5 comments)

austin tx: My New Hummingbird Friends - 07/19/09 12:55 PM
Alyssa got her Daddy a Hummingbird feeder for Father's Day, however we just hung it a few days ago.
Look at the visitor we had!  The Hummingbird is actually blurry because of the speed of the flapping of the wings, but I tried to get a picture as in-focus as possible.
How do they find the feeders?  The internet says they cannot smell it, and to not worry about coloring the water because they can't see it.  How did these hummingbirds know the feeder was there?  They appeared within an hour of putting it out in the tree.

austin tx: How Was Your Weekend? - 07/06/09 09:44 AM
Each week, I've been giving a summary of how my weekends are going.  It's mainly my way of showing off the light of my life, Alyssa. People seem to enjoy the updates, so I continue to post them.
This weekend was a lot of fun. We went out on Lake Travis.  Alyssa actually rode behind the boat in the tube. No, she was not alone... she rode with me.  We want her to know at an early age that the water is not scary.

We also spent some time with friends swimming in their pool.

Alyssa almost made it … (19 comments)

austin tx: The Adventures of Lakeway City Park - 07/05/09 01:24 PM
I was told by many people that the Lakeway City Park should definitely be a place for us to take Alyssa.  Why?  Because it had a nice beach and water front area where you could dip your feet on a hot day, and also feed the ducks.

Here is the Lakeway City Park beach...

Is it missing something?  Yes, that's a lot of sand with a sign that says to Swim at Own Risk.
How far away is the water?  Mike, Alyssa, and Oscar are walking in the middle of where it should be as you can see the pile … (6 comments)

This blog is to help educate Buyers, Sellers and even other Realtors across the country.  Each market is different and the way Real Estate is done is different.  Austin Real Estate is completely different than Dallas, California and Florida and everywhere else in between.  Some times there will be other things besides real estate as I like to rant and rave as much as the next!!  Come back often!
