city of austin: Mandatory Energy Audits - City of Austin TX - 09/15/14 12:12 AM
Back in June 2009, Austin TX implemented Mandatory Energy Audits for every sale if you fit the following criteria:
Live in the City of Austin Use Austin Energy The house is more than 10 years old For the most part, this really only applies to about 400k houses. Some houses in the City of Austin use a different Electric Company. Many houses that use Austin Energy don't fall within the city limits. It's not an "either or" situation. It's an "all" situation, and if you don't meet all 3 criteria, you don't need the energy audit.

city of austin: City of Austin Texas - Bag Ban - Ban of Single Use Bags - 03/04/13 03:26 AM
It's been 4 days since the Austin bag ban has been in place. What's the Austin Bag Ban? The City of Austin Texas bans the use of single use bags at the grocery and other stores.  Most people thought this meant single use "plastic" bags, but it also applies to single use "paper" bags. The paper bags with handles are considered ok to use.
Personally, I didn't think too much of the ban for a couple of reasons. One, I try to remember my fabric bags when I can. Two, I don't live within the City Limits of Austin so the … (8 comments)

city of austin: Adventures of Zilker Park in Austin TX - 06/24/09 02:05 AM
This past weekend, my family and I went to experience Zilker Park.  Zilker Park is known as "Austin's most loved park" according to the history page.

What's the history behind Zilker Park? A.J. Zilker deeded 35 acres to the City of Austin in 1918.  In 1932, Zilker agreed to give another 330 acres if the City of Austin paid $200,000 for the acreage that a military school that was formed during WWI was located on.  They agreed, the land was all joined together, which creates the current Zilker Park.
The 82nd Annual Zilker Park Kite Festival is already slotted for next … (9 comments)

city of austin: Mandatory Austin TX Energy Audits Begin June 1, 2009 - 05/14/09 12:34 AM
Starting June 1, 2009, houses for sale within the City limit of Austin, TX, must complete an energy audit on their home.  This includes homes currently under contract, so if they're slotted to close sometime in June, you better get your audit complete NOW!
For the Energy Audit, you must use someone on the Austin Energy approval list, shown below.  Austin Energy doesn't warrant any of their work and doesn't prefer one over the other, but these are the people who have applied to be approved and have gone through the training as to what the audit should cover.
