personal: New Years 2011 - 01/02/11 03:08 PM
New Years 2011. New Years is a time of reflection. Whether we plan to or not we seem to take time to review things just before starting the next year. Sometimes we see good things and sometimes . . . Let's just say that the years that fly by are the ones we remember fondly and the ones that seem to drag on have some "baggage". Okay so enough of that.
I hope that you had a great 2010 that flew by with many memories that are propelling you into 2011!
With new goals, wishes, and "honey-do's" I am looking forward … (0 comments)

personal: Why should I be your Real Estate Agent - 09/29/10 03:18 PM
Why should I be your Real Estate Agent? That is really the question that is on your mind right now. You have plenty of real estate agents to choose from. What makes a good agent? There are as many opinions about that as there are people. Some say experience or number of transactions. Some the brand recognition or how big their office is. Or maybe it is the type of car they drive or country club they belong to.
The secret. I think the secret is you have to choose the real estate agent that YOU feel is the best fit … (6 comments)

personal: Southern Hospitality is a Way of Life - 09/28/10 04:22 PM
Southern Hospitality is a Way of Life. In the south we pride ourselves on our hospitality. We are taught at a very young age to treat people the way we want to be treated and be respectful of others feelings. The essence of Southern Hospitality is etiquette, entertainment, and service.
Etiquette. Etiquette is important to showing respect and treating people as equals. It is a sign of your upbringing to have good manners and etiquette. This is not reserved just of social settings but for everyday interaction with people. We say "sir" and "ma'am", hold the door open for you, and … (0 comments)

personal: Real Estate Homeowner's Tips: Historic Homes Are Sustainable Homes Part 1 - 09/23/10 04:47 PM
Real Estate Homeowner's Tips: Historic Homes Are Sustainable Homes Part 1. I am a commissioner on the Sanford, North Carolina Historic Preservation Commission. Part of my duties and pleasures of being on this commission is attending seminars on the care and maintenance of historic buildings.
This year I attended the Preservation North Carolina Annual Conference in Durham, North Carolina on September 23-25, 2010. One of the sessions that I attended was on Energy Efficient Historic Homes. There was a ton of great information given in this class. I wanted to start by sharing a video that is part of the information … (0 comments)

personal: Real Estate Myth #2: Realtors Are LIARS and CROOKS - 09/11/10 03:42 PM
Real Estate Myth #2: Realtors Are LIARS and CROOKS!?! Is this how you really view real estate professionals? Do I look like a sleazy, greasy, leisure suit wearing, rejected used car salesman? When are we going to get past this stigma?
Perception is reality to the perceiver. Unfortunately there have been SOME "professionals" from the real estate industry that caused this stigma . Notice the emphasis on some. The North Carolina Real Estate Commission lists the various infractions that have resulted in the suspension/revocation of licenses for North Carolina REALTORS®. I know that everyone is not lily-white. But I also know … (4 comments)

personal: 6 Tips for Making Good Real Estate Decisions - 09/10/10 03:39 PM
6 Tips for Making Good Real Estate Decisions. I have a little friendly advice to help you when making decisions about real estate. These tips come from seeing a lot of people make important decisions about their largest and most important investments. Most have not had any regrets but some have come back to bite them in the butt.
Know the time constraints related to the decision. I list this tip first but it can be somewhat of a double edged sword. You need to realize the actual urgency of the decision and not fall prey to an exaggerated urgency. An … (3 comments)

personal: Closing Day and Final Walk-through Inspection - 09/08/10 03:04 PM
Closing Day and Final Walk-through Inspection. A day in the life of the Worley's.
When I lived in South Carolina my wife and I bought a foreclosure. It needed a lot of remodeling and renovations but we could get it for a fair price. I am a handyman by necessity (and hobby) and knew what to do to complete the work. We could save some money while creating a very nice home for my son, wife and myself so we bought it.
I completed he small jobs over the next couple of years and it was a very nice home. My … (10 comments)

Donnie Worley- Real Estate Professional. This is day 7 of my challenge to write 30 blogs in 30 days. I feel pretty good about my progress so far. I have written about some interesting topics and had a ton of encouragement along the way.
So I think it might be time to pull back the curtain and let my hair down a little to let you learn a little more about me. I probably won't do this very often. Mainly because you probably don't care. Anyway here is the first installment.
I am a practical person with common sense.  I try … (3 comments)

personal: Who's the Boss? Client's Employee or Trusted Expert - 09/06/10 03:09 PM
Who's the Boss? Client's Employee or Trusted Expert. I wrote a posted yesterday "The 3 L's of Real Estate: Listen, Listen, Listen". I have received some great comments (and even got my first Featured Post, Thank ya'll!)!
One comment in particular stood out to me from Drick Ward. He suggested that I change the word "employee" to "expert" so that it better reflected our professional position in the marketplace. My post, and my whole reason for blogging, is to grow personally and professionally. Drick's comment was excellent constructive criticism and it inspired me to write today's post about employees and experts. … (1 comments)

personal: The 3 L's of Real Estate: Listen, Listen, Listen! - 09/05/10 03:51 PM
The 3 L's of Real Estate: Listen, Listen, Listen. The definition of LISTEN is to hear something with thoughtful attention : give consideration. Listening is a lost art. We are so caught up in ourselves and what we need that we forget to slow down and just listen. You can learn a lot from people just by listening to their story and trying to understand. Have you listened to someone today?
Listening is a major part of communication. We have two ears and one mouth for a good reason. In order to communicate effectively you must be able to listen. Speaking … (43 comments)

personal: The #1 Rule for GREAT Customer Service - 09/03/10 03:14 PM
The #1 Rule for Great Customer Service is to remember to treat people the way you want to be treated. That is pretty simple isn't it?
I mean how hard is it to figure out how YOU feel about something. It's not magic and it does not require a lot of research. This is a simple lesson in common courtesy. Unfortunately this courtesy is not too common sometimes.
When you can put yourself in someone else's shoes you can better understand their needs. The key is being mindful of their situation while working to meet their goals. This will ensure that … (12 comments)

30 Blogs in 30 Days - I just needed a challenge!
Thanks to Karen Bernetti's challenge I am going to try to keep my procrastinating butt in gear to make a positive change in my blogging.
I have been working on several posts for a while but just can't seem to get in a groove.  This challenge is perfect because it normally takes about 30 days to create a new habit.
Hey I have enough bad habits!  Avoiding the gym.  3 cups of coffee each morning.  Pretending like I can't hear my wife when she is giving me my honey-do list.  … (8 comments)

personal: Procrastination can be a real B!T¢H! - 07/08/10 10:25 AM
Procrastination can be a real B!T¢H!
I have a confession to make. I am a master in procrastination. I have been dragging my feet now for months when it comes to blogging. I have subscribed to several ActiveRainers that provide great content, stalked several very good bloggers to see how its done, and learned a lot of good things along the way. But I still have made a lot of empty promises about blogging and haven't jumped in.
I kept telling myself that "you are just trying to find your voice" and I would put off a blog for another day. … (2 comments)
