active rain contests: Cherishing Precious Moments: A Gratitude Post for My Grandchildren - 11/02/23 06:18 PM
There's no better moment than now to pen and share my very first gratitude post, as part of the November Gratitude Challenge, graciously hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS. My heart brims with appreciation for my grandchildren (all 5 of them), and their presence in my life is a constant source of joy.
It all began when Sheri Sperry - MCNE® posted about her grandson Tristan and shared photos of Tristan in his Halloween costumes from years gone by. Her photos tugged at my heart strings and I felt a wave of inspiration.
Living in the vibrant city of Austin has its own set … (40 comments)

active rain contests: Tuesday's Treasures ~ ZOOMING in Active Rain - 09/24/21 07:22 PM
I love attending the Tuesday Zoom meetings here in Active Rain! There is so much talent and inspiration in our membership. These meetings are a great way to get to know each other better. Appreciating the time and effort of those who attend and keep the meetings going is important to the overall validity of our website. “Seeing” everyone virtually isn’t like meeting them in person but a close second.
There are many ongoing changes to bring our AR platform up-to-date. These modifications are essential and we need to understand the “why, “what” and “how” it takes to rebuild our website. We … (12 comments)

active rain contests: Cleaning up my blog posts is a challenge but soooo worth it - 06/08/18 11:04 AM
Debe Maxwell, CRS is hosting a June 2018 ActiveRain Challenge - "Spring Cleaning" and we all need to make time to participate.
Who doesn't need to refresh our past posts to make them more relevant and appealing? If you're just starting to blog than this exercise could be very helpful  in getting you off dead center!
I've taken the time to to refresh 10 older blog posts but can see this is a process I need to continue! I picked posts from 2011 and 2012 and worked on the following:
Changed titles Added links and or updated links Added photos at the top of my posts Added one or … (18 comments)

ActiveRain offers some challenging contests for us bloggers to write and enter. With the Winter Olympics showcasing the best athletics in the world and just coming to an end, what a wonderful tie-in to the spring real estate market...often touted as the best time of year for real estate!
If you’re a Realtor® being successful in the spring market doesn’t happen by showing up or waiting for the phone to ring! My ground work is laid fourth quarter. My goals for the following year are completed in October. My listings fourth quarter sell and close therefore I capitalize on these closings … (34 comments)

active rain contests: Thankful for my little boy who's grown into a loving man - 11/15/17 08:51 AM
Thank you Debbie Reynolds for this Thanksgiving challenge! This is my #4 entry.
I’ve always loved the saying “Raising boys is an honor and adventure!” not sure who said it but that is the way I feel about my son John Dunham. He was in a hurry to be born as I drove to the hospital (only 5 minutes away) not even taking time to put my convertible top up! I arrived and 35 minutes later the most precious little boy emerged to greet me!
John was a happy, inquisitive child who loved running, playing, swimming and biking and SWIMMING….did I say … (21 comments)

active rain contests: An Amazing Woman ~ Thankful for my sister... Susie - Q - 11/13/17 11:54 AM
I just got back from LA celebrating my sister Susie’s 75th Birthday! Her daughters planned this 6 months ago and what a lovely week-end of honoring Susie on her special day. I live in Austin and my brother and wife live in Pittsburgh and we made sure to come to celebrate this special occasion.

Susie, better known as “Mama Sue” to her blended family, was truly surprised. We were all together 3 years ago when Sue married her next door neighbor in Simi Valley CA after moving away for 10 years to live in Pittsburgh. Sue’s first husband passed away when he … (14 comments)

active rain contests: My network ~ is invaluable - 07/14/17 12:48 PM
This month Praful Thakkar is hosting an Active Rain Contest on “Your Network is Your Net Worth.” It’s a good challenge because our task is to explain who is your network and how do you “work” your network. I appreciate the chance to share and am reading many entries that are so inspiring!
I’ve been in the real estate business for 26 years. I’m dedicated to providing exemplary service and like to create “an experience” for my clients. My goal is for them to remember how smooth the transaction went and there won't be any doubt to recommend me enthusiastically to their friends and family. I … (20 comments)

active rain contests: May challenge ~ Before and After~Only for you Dick Greenberg - 05/11/17 01:50 PM
It’s fun to take photos and editing is such a creative activity, but, at this time in my career I’ve learned to do what I do best: “List and Sell” and hire the rest! I delegate photos to the professional photographers and love their clear, sharp, creative, HD photos they take for my listings. My sellers are always thrilled and often say …. “Wow these are so good I think I’ll stay!”
Dick Greenberg's  challenge this month is forcing me out of my comfort zone...only for you Dick I’ll complete this challenge!
I used a picture of a home I was going to list for my … (24 comments)

active rain contests: Balance of Work/Life is Easy Peezy if you love what you do! - 05/10/17 02:16 PM
Jeff Dowler offered up a good challenge this month The Challenges of Work-Life Balance – Your Personal Story. Everyone has a different take on this balancing work/life thing! Some say its all work, others say it’s all play and there are those in-between!
I love what I do! As a former educator I learned nurturing others is rewarding and recognize my passion is helping others grow, learn and become empowered. Knowledge is power! I enjoy the process of learning and understand it never stops whether in my personal life or work. Teaching involves just as much listening as speaking. I’ve found … (44 comments)

active rain contests: Ringing and Singing with Brenda Mayette~Glenville, New York - 01/25/17 11:39 AM
I started following Brenda Mayette last year when I discovered she was an agent servicing where I grew up in Schenectady N.Y. (yes I remember how to spell that). My mom worked as a home economics teacher in Niskayuna High School and my dad worked for General Electric. We lived in a suburb called Scotia and I graduated from Scotia – Glenville H. S. I still have by “tartan” letter from my cheerleading sweater and my megaphone charm!
Well guess what Brenda’s daughter Kelly is a sophomore where I went to HS “Go Tartans” and is a softball player just like her older … (18 comments)

active rain contests: Annual Canyon Creek Holiday Tree Lighting - 12/06/16 09:11 AM
This would have been the 5th year for our Holiday Tree Lighting event in Canyon Creek! The sleigh is up and our holiday tree has grown so much, this year lights were put up professionally.
Signs were all up announcing the Canyon Creek Tree lighting for this past Saturday, December 3rd from 4-8 pm! At noon on Saturday the call was made to cancel the event due to heavy rains and chilling temperatures. The show couldn’t go on. The animals couldn’t come, Mr. and Mrs. Santa and the horses couldn’t come and the DJ with the sound equipment could not bring his … (22 comments)

active rain contests: Thankful for my clients ~ Number 9 Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/22/16 02:50 AM
The Active Rain contest sponsored by  Debbie Reynolds (the real Debbie Reynolds) is one of the most fun challenges! It is the time of year to reflect on our many blessings. Sometimes we forget to acknowledge our family, friends, clients, colleagues, opportunities and natural wonders that affect our well being. It’s all about the journey in this life and we often take it for granted.
I’m blessed with the opportunity to work with so many truly wonderful clients that value what I do and aren’t afraid to tell me or refer me to their family and friends. This validation is important to … (25 comments)

active rain contests: Thankful “You Have a Friend in Me”~ No. 8 in Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/22/16 02:21 AM
Geno and I love to travel and one of the most memorable trips we’ve taken was with our traveling buddies, Gene’s brother and wife to Antarctica. Spending time with the penguins, sighting them on icebergs…..so many wonderful memories all wrapped up in a memorable video:

The time came to go and I have to admit we were not ready to leave and still remain thankful for the time spent exploring and remembering “You have a Friend in Me.”

active rain contests: Pay it Forward~Ongoing Fight For Cancer~NW Coldwell Banker Austin TX - 11/22/16 01:10 AM
It is the season for being thankful and giving to others tops many of our lists. There are so many things you can do to participate in the giving to others. There are small things that can you do every day, there are charities to donate monetarily to and charities to donate your time and efforts to make a successful event. I appreciate Belinda Spillman for offering a contest here in Active Rain to highlight what is being done across the country to Pay It Forward. I have been getting some new ideas for next year.
Our NW Coldwell Banker Office participates … (18 comments)

active rain contests: Change, Gratitude and Joy~Number 10 in the Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/21/16 06:52 AM
Today is Thanksgiving and I am thankful for what I have and I’m feeling very blessed. Each year has grown better than the last.

William Arthur Ward summed up my feelings perfectly:
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.”

This year as you're enjoying the sights, sounds and aromas of Thanksgiving, please know I'm deeply thankful for the traditions we continue to share. I'm wishing you, your family and friends many blessings on the Thanksgiving Day!

active rain contests: Thankful for my Administrative Assistant- No. 7 Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/21/16 01:35 AM
Many agents hire Administrative Assistants and find they don’t work out for one reason or another. I feel many hire an agent who wants you to mentor them and as soon as they feel they can go it alone they leave! Don’t get me wrong I believe in mentoring. I want to give back because I was lucky to experience some phenomenal mentoring from agents when I first started. I just don’t want them on my payroll.
As independent contractors we own our own business and decide how we want to run it. I love that! I don’t want to be … (12 comments)

active rain contests: Thankful for date time w/Geno~Number 6 in the Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/21/16 01:12 AM
I look forward to time alone with my Geno and a good way for us to make sure we have quality time is to schedule date night each week. I treat it like an appointment, it is on my calendar and appointments are worked around it.
It’s important to make time to enjoy each other’s company and make sure we are both on the same wave length with how our life is unfolding together. We love spending time with our children and grandchildren and have a hectic life style with me working as a Realtor®. There are texts, phone calls and clients … (10 comments)

active rain contests: Thankful for Family ~ Number 5 in the Thanksgiving Challenge - 11/18/16 05:03 AM
This photo was taken in 2012 of our blended family and since so many things have transpired. Our littlest granddaughter Beautiful Beckett was born and we lost Gene's son Jeff to Diabetics. Hailey is now a junior in college, Jeffery graduated from High School and Trey is a senior this year. It's hard to believe how quickly time flies by. Handsome Hudson is now four+.
Every day I give thanks for our wonderful blended family. I only wish my mom and dad were still here to be a part of the dynamics of the family we enjoy. I am thankful for moms encouragement and work … (17 comments)

active rain contests: Help me! Help me! I'm stuck on the balcony! - 11/14/14 05:41 AM
Have you heard about Kathleen Daniel’s entertaining contest going on? I’ve been reading some entries and feel Chris Ann Cleland is right….it’s time to dish on ourselves; belly up to the bar and share some of the embarrassing stories we’ve had with clients.  I’ve been reading some really fun stories!!!
I remember about 7 or 8 years ago showing properties to a mom and her 4 year old daughter. I was feeling so smart because I was keeping the little girl occupied by asking her to help open the lockboxes, shut the doors...she was a real little trooper and very … (36 comments)

active rain contests: Want to Trade? ~ My Call to Action - 09/29/14 02:15 AM

Rick Snow came up with an interesting contest this month in Active Rain. Rick asked us what we have to trade worth it for prospects to give up their most valuable possession which is their personal information in exchange for a possible lead. He titled the contest “Want to Trade?” He wants to know what we do to entice potential buyers/sellers to part with their personal information.

We are all bombarded where ever we go…..please give me your email address…. please give me your telephone number. Every purchase we make one or both of these questions are usually asked. … (15 comments)
