advertising: Answer Your Phone! - 01/28/23 10:31 AM
Yesterday I was in the office when my cell phone rang. I didn’t recognize the number, but it showed a name I thought I recognized.
Just like Hannah Williams, I had a real estate instructor, when I first started, tell us: “always answer your phone and smile, as it can be heard on the other end.” When I answered the caller stuttered and said “you answered your phone! You sound just like the enthusiast agent I remember. This is Amanda Lee, a blast from the past! You sold our home in Canyon Creek 14 years ago, and we moved to Fairfax Virginia.”

advertising: Do you have your name & company plastered all over your car? - 01/31/11 10:58 PM
Many times when scheduling an appointment to see a future seller's home they ask me if I have my name and company plastered all over my car.  They don't want their neighbors to know I'm coming to talk with them.  I always answer NO! I DO NOT make my name & company visible on my car.
Sometimes I'm meeting with  clients that want my advice on what projects they should be working on to prepare their home for sale in a year or two.  They want to know where to be investing their dollars and get some enjoyment out of the … (277 comments)

advertising: It's Not All About You!! - 09/27/10 03:55 PM
It's not all about you...
When showcasing your listings, is the advertising all about you? Sellers want their property presented in its very best light. They want flattering sharp clear pictures (as they should) and copy that spells out what their home has to offer.
I ask my sellers to give me a list of "The Top Ten Features of Their Home."  Not only does it help me in creating advertising pieces it often pinpoints what makes their home unique.
They really don't want the majority of their advertising to be all about you or your other listings! Buyers want to … (26 comments)

advertising: We Hit A Home Run! - 03/01/10 08:53 AM
Several years ago fraught with frustration over spending too much time and energy taking our own pictures of our listings we got smart!  Really there was nothing wrong with our pictures that a much better camera and operator couldn't fix!  We wouldn't have won any prizes, but, we thought maybe an honorable mention!! LOL...
We tried out several photographers and are very happy with the one we have been using the last three years.

Her pictures are clear, sharp and she has a unique way of capturing the best features of our listings.  She has an eye for the right … (20 comments)

advertising: It's All in Perception - 11/11/09 04:05 AM

Do you know agents who try and do the very least to get by?  Who don't invest in their own business? Who don't realize they have their own business? Who like to ride on the coattails of others hard work?

When we have an open house we utilize our professionally personalized signs with our names and phone numbers on all our directional signs.  We place the directional's up early in the day to receive maximum exposure and place them in MANY strategic places making it easy to find our open houses (like Hansel & Gretel dropping … (16 comments)

advertising: INVESTING WISELY - 02/03/09 09:50 AM
My granddaughter asked among other things to have a hamster this Christmas.  After a brother and sister went through the phase of housing this type of pet the parents decided there were other items that would be more appropriate as a gift.  My granddaughter does not give up easily on things she feels are important.  She did not let the fact she did not get one stand in her way.  She gathered all her Christmas money and decided to see if she had enough to get the hamster she wanted.  After counting it out... she had enough!  She coaxed mom to … (10 comments)

advertising: 4 bed/2 bath/2living....DUH !!!!!!! - 12/29/08 06:13 AM
I am in the process of writing some ads for open houses and for blurbs on new listings I have coming on the market.  I decided to go back and review comments on the best way to paint a picture of a home with words.
Over and over I read when writing ads be sure not to comment on all features of the home, but use key words to illicit an emotion and a call to action from the buyers.
I have to admit this line of thinking has lead to better responses on advertising copy.  It's all in the wording.  … (10 comments)
