The big news coming from the New York Times on January 18, 2018 is Amazon named the 20 finalists in the fierce contest for its second headquarters. Frankly I was surprised at our city making the cut. Why? Downtown Austin is ranked #3 on the list for the most expensive cities to live and our transit system leaves something to be desired! Many of our city council members are still resistant to growth. These are not desirable attributes for large corporations looking to open mega headquarters.

Our Coldwell Banker NW office makes it a point to make a difference in the communities we serve. We found out the number one need for the homeless with the cold weather approaching is SOCKS! Who knew?
Our office immediately set out on a mission to collect SOCKS for men, women and children in shelters and on the street. We now have two boxes filled and are working on a third! By the end of the week who knows how many we will have!
We are also accepting gloves, hats and scarves. Once collected, Mobile Loaves and Fishes will distribute them to those in need.

The October 2017 Central Texas housing Market report was released on November 14, 2017 by the Austin Board of Realtors®. Single-family home sales increased across the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in October. It was interesting to note sales declined in the City of Austin.
I think Brandy Guthrie’s (2017 President of the Austin Board of Realtors®) statement is right on target for the real estate activity in October 2017 in Austin. “The Austin-Round Rock housing market continues to slightly outperform last year’s home sales activity, keeping 2017 on-pace for another record year for home sales. At this time of year there are so many opportunities to make a difference for others. I try to make sure I am involved throughout the year and now have scheduled activities every month to ensure I make it happen.
One new opportunity I’ve found this year is volunteering at the Central Texas Food Bank. I had no idea how great the need for fighting hunger is in Central Texas. I was astonished to learn nearly 46,000 Central Texans (one third are children) count on the Food Bank to get nutritious food.
