coldwell banker united: Canyon Creek Elementary Boxtops For Education Fundraiser 2013 - 02/01/13 08:16 PM
Canyon Creek Elementary, located in the master planned community of Canyon Creek in NW Austin, does a lot to support its students. One of the ways they do this is with fundraisers.
An ongoing campaign they participate in is General Mills Box Tops For Education.  The school receives 10 cents for every box top submitted, and during the 2012-13 school year, this fundraiser generated over $3,400 for educational enrichment programs at the school.  You may remember my blog post from last year’s campaign event.
If you have saved box tops but do not have a child at Canyon Creek Elementary, please … (32 comments)

coldwell banker united: Thankful Thursdays~ Father and Son - 01/30/13 08:09 PM
Last Sunday we met in the park in Canyon Creek to have some family photos taken (which we will be sharing in future posts). Our son John and their 4 month old son Hudson were just hanging around jumping in and out of different captions! Father and son...a great combination.....

I couldn’t help but think of a favorite quote of mine from Walter M. Schirra:
“You don’t raise heroes you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes.”

coldwell banker united: Austin, Texas ~ Don't listen to the Naysayers! - 01/28/13 07:50 PM
No matter how good your real estate market is there are always the naysayers! They tend to dwell on one or two negative points which might be valid but they just don’t get the big picture: In Austin housing is cheap, people prefer to own and Austin housing is transforming from a cost driven pricing to market driven pricing 2013/14 (in other words get ready for a surge in home prices)!
Quite simply there is not enough housing for the amount of people moving here, do the math! This isn’t Rocket Science. Limited inventory makes the Austin Market prime for many types … (26 comments)

coldwell banker united: Your Home Is For Sale...Where Is Your Listing Agent? - 01/28/13 06:39 AM
I was showing property to my first time home buyers and at last some new inventory came on market! I made appointments with all 5 homes. There were 3 out of the 5 homes of interest to my buyers. They wanted more information as they were serious about making an offer on one of them.
I tried calling one listing agent and the voice mailbox was full! I had called the day before to make an appointment when I saw it had just come on market. The seller was surprised she did not know the house was in the MLS yet! Really????
I … (24 comments)

coldwell banker united: New Year ~ Time to Clear The Clutter - 01/26/13 08:07 PM
The spirit of giving doesn’t have to end in December when the holidays are upon us.  It’s a new year and that means it’s time to declutter and make room for the new holiday toys and gifts the kids may have received.  Set aside some time to open that closet or lift the lid on that toy box and set a plan in motion:

Sort through the kids toy box for those toys that your children have outgrown but still have a lot of fun left in them.
Many of us have clothing in our closets that no longer fit, or that … (35 comments)

coldwell banker united: RRISD Health Services Dept. spreads the word on flu prevention - 01/23/13 07:49 PM
It’s that time of year for flu symptoms to appear! The Round Rock ISD Health Services Department takes their job seriously of getting the word out for preventative actions to ward off flu! They know preventative actions may slow the spread of germs that cause respiratory (nose, throat and lungs) illnesses, like flu.
They have compiled a list of preventative actions to take during the flu season. You can go online: List of preventative actions to read or see the list below:
Cover your nose and mouth with the crook of your elbow or upper arm when you cough or sneeze. This … (34 comments)

coldwell banker united: Do you know the difference between Emergency Room and Urgent Care? - 01/22/13 08:33 PM

There is a difference between going to an “emergency room” for care and going to an “urgent care” facility. Many think it is one in the same and it is not! It’s best to check with your insurance carrier to know what your policy covers in both situations.
Here is an article that I read that prompted this post:
http://www.kxan.com/dpp/news/investigations/shock-1400-bill-for-sore-throat
If you have an emergency you need to go directly to a hospital emergency room (your son has broken his leg, your daughter is unconscious and running a 105 fever etc.). Some hospitals are now reaching out to the community with … (16 comments)

coldwell banker united: People Watching in Hong Kong - 01/22/13 07:26 AM

On our recent trip to Hong Kong, our favorite past time when traveling abroad…...people watching, took on a life of its own! It’s always fun to see the way people dress and what they consider appropriate attire in different countries.

While cueing up for a cab, after our turbo jet trip back from Macau, we spotted this gal in her fuchsia color fur coat with matching bag proudly making her own fashion statement (not really much different than we see at home).
When waiting in line to catch the cable car in Ngong Ping to ride up 5.7 km … (22 comments)

coldwell banker united: If you are going to buy in Austin...you'd better be buying! - 01/18/13 08:47 PM
Thursday, January 17th, Gene and I attended an exciting Austin Residential Market Review at the Barton Creek Country Club which Independence Title offered to invited guests (thank you Kara McGregor and her business development team). Mark Sprague, State Director of Information Capital offered an exhilarating market update. All good news for Austin!!

I like to hear Marks predictions and review because he tends to be on the conservative side and doesn’t blow smoke! But as he says: facts are facts.
So what are the facts…. why is Austin on a high:
1.      Austin area resale inventory is  3.4 months
2.      New and … (51 comments)

coldwell banker united: Do what you do best ~ Hire the rest! - 01/16/13 08:01 PM
I believe in this statement “Do what you do best and hire the rest!” I’ve heard this since I got into real estate from my early classes with Floyd Wickman. I am a firm believer!
I unfortunately get to witness many consumers who want to be the jack of all trades, especially when it comes to home improvements. Trust me very few have a knack for laying hardwood floors when they have never done it before.
Painting may sound like fun and all the pallet of colors to choose from is enticing, but if you want it to look good let a professional painter … (40 comments)

coldwell banker united: Wordless Wednesday ~ These Shoes Are Made For Strutting - 01/16/13 05:42 AM
Recently while in Hong Kong we decided to visit some shopping areas to get a feel for fashion that might be coming our way! There is no question the men’s fashion is similar in color to those proud peacocks we see strutting their stuff!

Vibrant color for males is obviously "in" out there..I dare you!!
P.S. If you are thinking of buying real estate in NW Austin and would like something unusual don’t be afraid to speak up….I don’t wear shoes like this because I’m practical and have a solid based business but I do make our transactions fun! I’m the source … (24 comments)
