community: Respect ~ Community Guidelines - 01/10/19 10:32 AM
In our Active Rain forum guidelines are established to ensure as participants we represent our industry as true, transparent and professional. The very first word in our AR community guidelines is the word “RESPECT.” This is the foundation our guidelines are built on. It’s important to exhibit mutual respect for our industry, fair housing and the ActiveRain community.
Understanding our attitudes and actions towards each other will have a greater positive impact on the viewing/reading public than anything we could ever write! Liz and Bill Spear  wrote a post recently: “Can you answer the Question? We often get asked the question “How is the market?” … (34 comments)

community: Pay It Forward ~ Help Support Business in Your Community - 07/07/11 11:26 PM
Pay It Forward ~ Help Support Business in your communityI read the post from Katerina and Nestor yesterday morning on "Radically Change Your Community."  The Challenge is intriguing.  I agree small business drives the economy in America.I have always been a firm believer in supporting our local residents in their business endeavors.  I trust if everyone is doing well then our economy will continue to thrive.  Just this week we found a neighbor boy saving for a laptop.  We employed him to deliver our 1,300 statistical reports to all households.  They have all been printed in color, folded and stuffed into plastic … (12 comments)

Are You Practicing SST With Your Community?
I was holding an open house a few weeks ago and one of my past clients came in to see me.  He is one of the most caring and dedicated pastors I've had the pleasure to represent.  I listed their home and sold them a house in our community.  We are very fortunate to have him and his wife now reside in our neighborhood!
He made two observations while we were talking that I felt were heartwarming.  He told me they enjoyed seeing our personalized direction signs every Sunday leading visitors to our homes. … (6 comments)

community: Mixing Humor with Business - 10/26/09 10:38 AM

Do you remember "The Andy Griffith Show" produced for TV back in the 1960's?  It ran for eight seasons straight in prime time.
The series revolved around ordinary life situations in a small town with the main characters Andy Griffith, Opie, Deputy Barnie Fife and Gomer Pyle constantly in the middle of some kind of crisis.
The message always revolved around a moral lesson.

It was hugely successful with the whole family as it depicted well the strong ties of family and community.  The popularity increased because the characters and the actors worked well together … (27 comments)

The Canyon Creek Swim Team located in the NW Austin community of Canyon Creek is ready to kick off another swim season!  The swim team is open to any Canyon Creek resident who is 5 years or older as of January 2009.
What I like is their philosophy that the team will be recreational, educational and FUN!!  This is a great neighborhood swim team that does not take itself too seriously!  Registration for the upcoming season will be Saturday, March 28th @ the pool in Canyon Creek.  Registration forms will be available at the pool … (6 comments)

community: SAME PRINCIPLES APPLY EVERYWHERE - 01/07/09 05:23 AM
H.E.B. is one of the largest grocery store chains in Austin,Texas.  They also feature an upscale store called Central Market with another one under construction in the hip Domain area along with their various super stores.  I like to shop there because they are consumer friendly, have wonderful fruits & vegetables, a great meat & poultry section, their prices are competitive and, oh, did I mention they are consumer friendly?  The workers are easily identified as they are dressed similarly and sport name tags (in their large stores this really helps).  They actually stop and ask you if they can help … (10 comments)

community: DO GOOD AND GET IT DONE - 12/19/08 03:12 AM
We have all seen "bag ladies" on a street corner in any city. Their bags are stuffed with produce or personal possessions.  Rarely do they use "plastic" bags because they are not durable enough so try to find a cloth or heavy canvas bag.  The have a death grip on these bags and you can bet these bags are not looked as a fashion statement!
I wonder if the three ladies in Austin, Texas who came up with an alternative to the reusable shopping bags got their idea from these "bag ladies"?  Melissa Nathan, Amy George and Page Davis founded Blue Avocado and … (1 comments)
