It’s an eye opener to see all the mega companies betting on their future in Austin. They are making full blown commitments to our city that you don’t often see around the US. The big office towers downtown and in North Austin’s Domain are visual indicators of this trend.
In Neal Spelce’s latest newsletter (I love to follow what this Austin economist has to say) I agree with his statement: “It’s more than a coincidence. No more thin plastic bags at Austin checkout counters! Either bring your own recycled bags or be prepared to purchase ones if you want to have something to put your goods in.
A new City of Austin ordinance came into effect on March 1, 2013. They require single-use carryout bags made of recycled materials. The ordinance forbids most retailers and businesses from offering single-use carryout bags-the common thin plastic bag or handless paper bags that are not made of recycle materials.
