For the second year in a row our granddaughter Hailey received the "Most Improved" award on the varsity team. The coach said she has never given the award to the same girl twice but felt the recipient definitely deserved the award. Hailey is a sophomore at Westwood High School.The district coaches vote on the top 24 players in the district. This past August we traveled to Chamonix, France. We hopped on the gondola, The L'Aiguille du Midi, and soared to dizzying heights to the top of the Mont-Blance Massive. Watching the hikers trudge up the mountain we spotted two who were breaking away from the pack and going it alone. It reminded me of Tobias George Smollett's quote:
