italy: Tuesday's Treasures ~ Geno's Infamous Red Shoes - 03/23/20 09:56 AM
During one of my days of quarantine over the week-end, I decided to tackle a box of old photos that were stored in the garage. In 2002 my Geno and I traveled with 3 other couples on a wonderful adventure! We started in Barcelona for a few days, took a cruise to so many memorable places. Venice, Taormina, Corfu, Capri to name just a few stops (a story for each port for sure) and ended up in Rome for a few days.
Many men were wearing red shoes in Italy that year and of course they attracted Geno's attention and knew he'd have to go all over until he found a … (24 comments)

italy: Saturday's Shots ~ Lunch by the sea - 09/15/16 05:46 AM

While on our Mediterranean cruise recently we visited the port of Santa Margherita Ligure, Italy. We loved the stop because we could explore this beautiful town on the Italian Riviera and were so close to Rapallo, Portofino and Camogli. Our driver introduced us to a charming local Ristorante in Camogli, “La Camogliese” where we enjoyed conversations with the owner and several patrons eating near us. Of course pesto is what they are known for so I tried their Lasagna Pesto and what a treat! It was hands down the best I’ve even eaten.

italy: Wednesday Shots ~ Go Green at Lido Beach Camogli, Italy - 09/12/16 04:25 AM

On our recent Mediterranean cruise we disembarked at Santa Margherita Ligure and our driver took us to Rapallo, Portofino and we stopped for lunch in Camogli (a wonderful little town overlooking Lido Beach).  We loved seeing all the beach clubs everywhere along the beaches.  Forty Euros for the day bought you a beach umbrella, a spot on the beach and access to showers!

italy: Wordless Wednesday ~ Lurking in the underbrush - 09/07/16 04:10 AM
Recently while navigating the curvy, narrow road encircling Portofino we spotted 2 Paparazzi lurking in the underbrush snapping away through the wrought iron fence! There were two gorgeous yachts anchored next to each other with the guests and crew partying. Our guide told us some movie stars had leased the yachts and the photos the paparazzi snagged would be seen in the latest trash tabloids!

italy: Can You Hear The Music? - 07/12/10 12:19 AM
I will never forget standing in the Villa Rufolo's Gardens before the Ravelo Festival was to begin.
I could close my eyes after drinking in the beauty of the gardens and almost hear a whisper of the music playing.
At this time I couldn't help but think of something George Carlin repeatedly said:
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

italy: Thankful Thursdays~The Watch Post ~ San Marino, Italy - 11/11/09 09:00 AM
In San Marino, Italy the 13th century tower stands on the highest point of San Marino.  The first tower (there are three) or Guanita guards the San Marino's hilltop.  This was once the former watch post and shelter of the early inhabitants of Mount Titano. You can see where the soldiers watched over the city!

italy: A Burst of Energy - 11/06/09 03:20 AM

Sitting on our balcony on the Azamara cruise ship I snapped a picture as we passed by the famous Etna volcano on the eastern side of Sicily.
I heard a swishing sound and realized as I was taking the picture Stromboli spurted an eruption!
Love my timing...Stromboli is one of the most active volcanoes on the earth.

italy: Have You Checked Out Your Own Backyard Lately? - 10/19/09 09:49 AM

This summer while in Ravella, a little town in Italy, it was quite apparant people enjoyed their quiet time and lovely fragrant gardens.
There was a relaxed atmosphere; almost like stepping back in time.  There were people leisurely having cappuccino's speaking in quiet tones.
No one was frantically walking to get somewhere. If a cell rang it was a mellow sound.  The recipient actually got up; stepped away from the group to answer their call.  Dale Carnegie has a quote that brings this village and these people to mind:
"One of the most tragic things I know about human … (57 comments)

italy: Thankful Thursdays ~ Love is an Investment - 09/24/09 03:39 AM

Love is an investment ~ it should pay regular dividends.  This delicate, colorful flower is like enjoying one of these dividends!  As we sauntered through the Biglietteria Villa Rufolo's Gardens in Ravello, Italy our senses were assaulted with fragrant smells and gorgeous colors of beautiful flowers.  It's amazing to me the love and caring that is given to these gardens.  I think I'm in heaven!

italy: The Amalfi Coast ~ Close to the Garden of Eden! - 09/18/09 05:21 AM

As we traveled the twisty roads along the Amalfi Coast Highway there are several tunnels to navigate and this was one we were able to snap a picture of before entering!
The tunnels are lighted and aren't too long but quite a departure from the picturesque scenery along the coast line!

italy: Thankful For The View of Tuscany - 09/03/09 05:00 AM

Standing on a hill top overlooking Tuscany this is the most popular spot to take a picture and capture the winding road. Daniella, our tour guide, took us off road to make sure we were able to get this shot. He told us this spot is the most photographed, and used in the majority of wine advertisements and travel sites when depicting the Tuscany countryside (gals ~ wait until I show you his picture in another blog ~~ Mama Mia!)

italy: Overlooking Praiano, Italy - 09/02/09 09:03 AM

Another glorious day spent on the twisty road up the Amalfi coast in Italy.  This stop overlooking Praiano ranks right up there as one of the most beautiful coast line shots Gene and I have ever witnessed.  There are all kinds of highs in life and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Think of owning a villa in these parts and try and put a dollar value on this view!  Still thinking real estate!!

italy: Unforgettable Sounds From The Mountain Top - 09/02/09 06:27 AM

After navigating the twisty roads up the Amalfi Coast our wonderful guide "Giovanni" made our first stop of the day at the "Biglietteria Villa Rufolo's Gardens" Gardens!  We discovered the world acclaimed site for musical productions.  Can you imagine the sounds reverberating from the the mountain top cascading down the Amalfi Coast??For centuries celebrities have flocked to Ravello like Richard Wagner, Greta Garbo, Gore Vidal and D.H. Lawrence who wrote Lady Chatterley's Lover in this city.
