travel: Saturday's Shots ~ The Matterhorn - 09/11/20 10:09 AM
In August of 2011 our travels took us to Zermatt, Switzerland to experience the most photographed mountain the "Matterhorn.  It is Switzerland's most famous landmark and symbol.
We stayed at The Omnia, one of our most favorite hotels in Europe. After each of our visits we received a special memorabilia that showed us true customer service. They made it a priority to stay "top of mind" with all patrons. We always recognized and appreciated their value added service.
So many exciting places in the world to visit. I will be forever grateful to my Geno who planned so many amazing adventures.
Thank you for the memories!

travel: Tuesday's Treasures ~ Geno's Infamous Red Shoes - 03/23/20 09:56 AM
During one of my days of quarantine over the week-end, I decided to tackle a box of old photos that were stored in the garage. In 2002 my Geno and I traveled with 3 other couples on a wonderful adventure! We started in Barcelona for a few days, took a cruise to so many memorable places. Venice, Taormina, Corfu, Capri to name just a few stops (a story for each port for sure) and ended up in Rome for a few days.
Many men were wearing red shoes in Italy that year and of course they attracted Geno's attention and knew he'd have to go all over until he found a … (24 comments)

travel: The nuts and bolts and then some - 10/03/18 02:28 PM
Many of you know I grew up in upstate New York and have an older sister who lives in CA and a young brother who lives in Pittsburgh. Mom and dad have been gone for years but the three of us siblings remain close even though living worlds apart.
I remember Dad left early for work each day coming back home with his hat in his hand, tired after a long day. As kids we loved climbing trees, building forts, damming up creeks, playing kickball & baseball, picking apples and pears from our trees, ice skating, snow skiing, sledding, building ice … (32 comments)

travel: Ask your agent if they are away who covers their business? - 01/10/11 08:53 AM
Ask your agent if they are away who covers their business? When selecting an agent to represent you in a real estate transaction you need to know their procedures for working with you.  Are they available from 9-6? Are they accessible both Saturday and Sunday?  How do they communicate: email, phone, text or a combination? Asking many questions will help in the decision making process to find a good agent match for you. At least several times a year my husband and I take a break to travel which is one of our favorite things to do!  We schedule trips in a relatively … (84 comments)

travel: Get It And Go - 09/04/10 12:27 AM

Get it and go!  GOES (Global Online Enrollment System) makes re-entry to the United States a breeze.  GOES provides an alternative Passport Control process for pre-approved, pre-screened eligible travelers.
Two years ago we applied online at www.cbp.gov.   We received a message to schedule our interview and drove to Houston to complete the process.  Since that day we've enjoyed bypassing the long lines when re-entering the U.S. by using the automated  kiosks located at select airports.  We just place our passports on the screen, touch our fingerprints for recognition, answered a few questions on the monitor and voila a receipt … (18 comments)

travel: Thankful Thursdays - 09/01/10 11:44 PM
Gene and I are blessed with a loving friendship with Gene's brother and wife (we affectionately refer to them as "Mr. Frankie and Kisses").
For the past six years we have enjoyed unparalleled traveling adventures throughout the world as a foursome.
From cruises to planes, trains and automobiles we have enjoyed touring delightful countries!
We have scoured England, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Denmark, Turkey and Russia to now Egypt, Jordan and Israel.  I'm sure I have left some countries out but we loved every exciting escapade!!  Meeting the people of the countries we visit and immersing ourselves in … (20 comments)

travel: (not so) Wordless Wednesday - 08/25/10 11:05 AM
Just a few weeks ago while touring Egypt we were having fun riding camels by the pyramids in Egypt!  As Michael, from Michael's View says: "Time flies when you are having fun!"  These pictures are probably pretty self-explanatory, but, I want you to know this was really exciting!  Camels are smelly but amazingly agile!

travel: Can You Hear The Music? - 07/12/10 12:19 AM
I will never forget standing in the Villa Rufolo's Gardens before the Ravelo Festival was to begin.
I could close my eyes after drinking in the beauty of the gardens and almost hear a whisper of the music playing.
At this time I couldn't help but think of something George Carlin repeatedly said:
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

travel: The Constant Pursuit of Excellence For Over 170 Years - 12/14/09 08:38 AM
On one of  our recent trips our guide took us to the oldest and most famous Patisserie in Lisbon, Portugal.  Pasteis de Belem opened in 1837 and serves the most delicious pastries.
It was amazing to see the locals and tourists clamoring for these yummy morsels of egg tarts, often waiting hours for them to be made.  They are sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar but are not sweet like our pastries.
To think they provide a quality product day after day over 170 years. If you are going to achieve excellence in big things you develope the habit in little … (12 comments)

travel: Friday's Fotos ~ My Maytag Broke!!! - 12/11/09 06:11 AM
While traveling in Portugal this past summer we visited many out of the way towns to get the flavor of the country. We stopped at one little town for an espresso and poked around the side streets.  Everyone hangs their laundry out their windows.  With so many people living in small flats this is the normal way of life.  They are energy conscious and don't have the conveniences of the washers and driers that we do.

travel: A Burst of Energy - 11/06/09 03:20 AM

Sitting on our balcony on the Azamara cruise ship I snapped a picture as we passed by the famous Etna volcano on the eastern side of Sicily.
I heard a swishing sound and realized as I was taking the picture Stromboli spurted an eruption!
Love my timing...Stromboli is one of the most active volcanoes on the earth.

travel: SPEECHLESS WEDNESDAY ~ THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL - 02/10/09 09:16 AM

When we were traveling in France last summer we visited the Fountainbleau Gardens.  While we were there we snagged a wonderful coach driver who took us through the gardens and nearby forests.  We were coming down this beautiful lane in the forest and were headed to the other end and I was struck by this picturesque setting!  It looked to me like a "window of opportunity" so I stood up and snapped this picture.  It's much like traveling down the path of life.  Sometimes we see the light and know we … (12 comments)

This picture was taken on another adventure with our favorite traveling companions: Gene's brother and his wife.  We stepped back in time and stayed at Badeutt's Palace in St. Moritz overlooking the famous Lake St. Moritz.  Can you believe they enjoy over 300 days a year of sunshine?  It's known as "Top of the World" because the highest summit in the Eastern Alps ~ The Piz Bernia  ~ lies a few kilometers south of this village (we rode the Bernia Railway past the Alps and trust me it is the tallest … (10 comments)

Last summer on another adventure Gene and I had with his brother & wife we explored outside of Paris a town called Fountainbleau Avon.  We took the train there (a whole other experience) where my sister-in-law's relatives met us and took us to the Fountainbleau Castle and Gardens.  It was a splendid day and so quiet and gorgeous strolling through the gardens.  Their pace of life is so different from ours.  They say we Americans "live to work" not "work to live."  There may be truth in that … (4 comments)
