spring: Alive & Well? - 03/07/20 09:07 AM
I was sitting here with thoughts of Spring and decided to take a look at the whole Georgetown, MA Real Estate Market. Mind you, Georgetown is a town of roughly 8700 with approximately 3000 households.
Here's a March 7 look at the Georgetown, MA Real Estate Market: There are currently: 6 Single Family residences on the Active Market 3 Condominiums 1 Multi-Family 4 Tracts of Land 2 Commercial Rentals Meanwhile, there are 16 properties currently progressing to closing. And 13 more properties have SOLD/Closed in the last 3 months (typically slow months) Diagnosis: The Georgetown Real Estate Market is Alive and … (2 comments)

spring: Don't Forget To... - 03/06/20 10:02 PM
That's right! Spring is fast upon us. Tonight we set our clocks forward 1-hour (EXCEPT those in AZ. They get to miss the excitement...lol).
In the Real Estate world, there is much expectation about the Spring Market. Everyone talks about it.
Spring is that time of year for renewal. I've already gotten my burning permit from the local Fire Department. I'm making a list of the outdoor jobs around the house like replacing a couple of deck boards, reattaching the lattice the Winter wind dislodged, lawn work of course and some other stuff.
As usual, when you are changing your clocks before retiring make … (18 comments)

spring: What's in a Name? - 03/13/19 10:14 AM

Bet you don't know about "BIG CHEEKS"

A grandson of slaves, a boy was born in a poor neighborhood of New Orleans known as the "Back of Town."
His father abandoned the family when the child was an infant.  His mother became a prostitute and the boy and his sister had to live with their grandmother.
Early in life, he proved to be gifted for music and with three other kids he sang in the streets of New Orleans. His first gains were coins that were thrown to them.

spring: Here It Comes...FINALLY - 03/08/19 06:37 AM
Spring is getting closer and closer. As I look out my office window I see mounds of snow, it's 14 degrees outside BUT the sun is out, I don't see a cloud in the sky and hope burns eternal that the Spring warmup will begin. When I look at Spring I start with markers along the way, such as the Red Sox Spring Training in February, then The Daytona 500, a couple of weeks later and my 3rd marker....Daylight Savings Time!!!

The flowers will soon pop through the thawed soil, landscapers will be out and about, Spring cleaning chores will be worked out, … (20 comments)

spring: National Search... - 03/06/19 07:10 AM
As I sit here nursing a sidelining head cold I became aware of the national search for the nefarious Puxatony Phil...alledged prognosticator of Spring weather. Early signs of Spring came and went. One of my neighbors said they saw a small flock of Robin Red-Breast birds. But since then I came across this wanted poster. Be careful, he's furry and cute but will lie to your face.

spring: How Many Phils Are There? - 02/03/19 11:03 AM
Of course, there's only 1 Puxatawney Phil BUT what I didn't know was how many States have their own version of Pennsylvania's Puxatawney Phil. Here's a map. AND I found a couple others not listed.

The winter was milder than normal in New England and many other locations in the country AND the prediction is for a hotter than normal Summer. My hope for Real Estate is we have a Hotter than normal Spring Market. spring: What Do You Think Of? - 02/17/17 06:33 AM
What do you think of when you think of Spring? Here in the northern states, many sports fans think of Baseball or NASCAR.  Others think of Daylight Savings Time or make plans for the landscaping of their yard and the vegetable/flower garden. Realtors® think of the "Spring Market". THEN, there is the ardent golfer waiting to hit the links again.
I came across a piece of golfing lore. In, 1889, while playing in Atlantic City, N.J. Ab Smith hit a shot he defined as a "bird of a short." His description of the shot led to one of golfing's embedded descriptions. A shot … (16 comments)

spring: It's Here!! - 03/11/16 10:52 PM

I hope with such a mild winter in New England we are not being teased by Ole Man Winter. We've already had 60° - 70° weather. I have no snow in my yard. The groundhog saw his shadow, the NASCAR season has started, baseball Spring training has started, March Madness is in full swing AND tonight begins Daylight Savings Time - Spring Forward.

Remember to:

Set your clocks forward 1 hour
Test your smoke detector
Change the batteries.

I just installed a new smoke detector because mine was over 10 years old. The new ones have 10-year life batteries.

spring: Massachusetts Real Estate - 03/10/16 01:05 AM
It appears the mild winter and advent of Spring along with low-interest rates has incentivized Real Estate buyers. TheMassachusetts Association of Realtors has published the February Pending Sales. Pending sales are way up in single family homes and condominiums. This would indicate another strong Spring market. Inventory is low but that will help increase sales prices even though the median prices have slipped a bit, according to the article.

spring: Spring, It's Almost Here!!! - 03/05/15 09:53 PM
The signs of Spring are everywhere. Baseball Spring Training is in full swing, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has begun and even the calendar indicates it's March and Daylight Savings is upon us.  Sooooo, why is it -11°F [wind chill] this morning?

BUT, the weather people say we'll see temps up to +50°F here in Georgetown, MA next week.

But, I digress...

With Daylight Savings [Spring Forward] happening this weekend there are a couple of things to remember...

Changing the batteries in your Smoke/CO detectors is of … (2 comments)
