Consumers, myself included - need to be more wary than ever of the unscrupulous methods that Credit Card companies are using to separate more of your hard earned money from you.
It's important to read the fine print on your credit card agreement
The Universal Default Clause means that even if you pay your credit card bill timely without ever having the slightest problem, the credit card company can increase your rate if for example you paid your phone bill late.
The internet is rife with stories from people all over the US that have had the (0 comments)

foreclosure prevention 101: Foreclosure Prevention 101 ( Do You Have a Story Like This?)

Yesterday, I heard what may be one of the worst stories of incompetence, actually beyond incompetence and out right criminal, if the story is accurate. This distraught person called seeking help because they had been in chapter 13 bankruptcy making payments to what they thought was the trustee of the Federal Bankruptcy court for over 8 months. Turned out the trustee never forwarded any of the money to any of the creditors! Over eight thousand dollars paid out and now facing foreclosure due to what looks to me like at best incompetence at worst out right Fraud. I just can't (0 comments)
On my last post I mentioned the sheer numbers of people that many times wind up facing foreclosure due to long wait for disability or workers comp benefits after an injury or illiness. Here are some ideas for people who may be struggling to pay the bills and mortgage to to a reduction or loss of income. Many States throughout the US offer programs for alternative living , temporary emergency housing for children, programs for teens with babies and foster care programs for children. There are other programs for seniors and senior care, of course some have varying levels of certification (0 comments)
I believe the Maxed Out Trailer Documentary and Nightline broadcast and commentary by the documentary producer is too important not to share with anyone that has not seen it. Check out the video on youtube from the link below.

The Disability Nightmare: The phone rings... after I introduce myself, the caller, lets call her Mary in this case, asks me a few questions about how I help people in her situation. I ask Mary a few questions to get some idea of what her actual situation really is- and whether she yet to receive any notices from her mortgage lender. Mary pauses for a moment lets out a (sigh) and then begins to go into the details of how she wound up facing a possible foreclosure sale and eviction from her home... "I was working and paying all of my (0 comments)

When your home is on the line one of the worst possible things that you can do is doing nothing! Listen I confess, I am guilty of a little procrastination too from time to time but... If we are talking about the possibility of losing my home- believe you me I would move with Olympic Speed. I've come across many world class procrastinators, yes, even homeowners facing foreclosure! Many I speak with at least do some investigation to explore their options. Many others decide to move forward and then... Nothing. When they finally come back 2,3,4 weeks later if they are (0 comments)
Why the State in which you purchased your home can make a world of difference in how fast it can be foreclosed and sold from under you. In the US there are basically 2 methods of foreclosing on a property. 1- Power of Sale 2- Judicial
Many of the 50 States fall under Power of Sale. Under this method, the title to the property when purchased doesn't actually get transferred to the buyer until the loan has been paid in full. The foreclosure process in a Power of sale State can take place be very quickly 30-60 days after the lender has satisfied all (0 comments)

Don't be mislead by the lenders customer service representative. I can't tell you how many times someone has come to me for help in stopping their foreclosure that could have been avoided altogether had the borrower not been given bad or mis-leading information. Here's a common scenario: A borrower runs into financial problem such as the home heating system breaking down or being unemployed temporarily for a while due to an injury. This is just two of quite literally dozens of temporary hardships that hard working people face every day. Anyway, the borrower usually comes to me for help explaining (0 comments)
