The ActiveRain Zoom Calls are Mini Versions of Past Events
The March Challenge hosted by Eileen Burns, and Kat Palmiotti, is offered as a way of generating some enthusiasm amongst ActiveRain members to participate in the weekly Zoom call.
I was not an early participant and cannot remember as to why I didn't get on the early calls but have been on the calls as time permits. I have also gotten into a re-cap post as an enticement to share and maybe even bring new faces.
There is a socialization few moments that take place before the start of the calls that brings fond … (36 comments)

activerain challenges: My Golf Journey to Date, 2024 and Still Rolling - 02/02/24 11:27 AM
My Golf Journey to Date
I won't say I'm addicted to golf, but I do know that I start to twitch, and my hands shake if I am away from it too long., as is the case for me this early in February. My wife says she has accepted her position as second love, and when we plan vacations will ask me if I have allowed for golf.
My job before I got into real estate allowed me a lot of opportunities to play golf around the country, and I have walked some of the courses that people just dream of. For instance, … (32 comments)

Can AI Help to Cure Deadly Diseases
Ther is an irony to me at least with the title of this post and the challenge for this month.  AI is here and it isn't going away and will only get larger as new ways are found to put it to use.
I caught a segment on CNN on a Sunday past and the guest was speaking to the advances made with AI in medicine and how within the next decade, it will be common for AI to be involved in patient diagnoses.
That is already on the radar as was pointed out in a Zoom … (25 comments)

AI is Not New, It's Still Evolving
The January ActiveRain Challenge for 2024 is to offer our take on how we are using AI, if at all.  The reality is we are all invested in the use of AI, just maybe not recognizing it as such.
As relates to real estate and making property descriptions, it is a wary approach for some and fully absorbed by others. The fear of something new, especially for some agents, that are wary of the computer as a basic tool can be seemingly daunting. Like all new toys, it's full appreciation will take time and then it is … (19 comments)

activerain challenges: November Challenge, I'm Thankful for so Much 4 - 11/30/23 12:38 PM
November Challenge, I'm Thankful for so Much 4
As November is the month of appreciation and gratitude, like the Pilgrims with their first fest of thanks, we are offered a chance to reflect on what makes us smile and share with fellow members here, on ActiveRain.
I have offered my appreciate and love for the people in my life as well as the friends and people that make the character of ActiveRain s special.
As real estate is the focus of my presence here on ActiveRain, it would only be appropriate to give a post for the appreciation and trust given to me by … (16 comments)

November Challenge,  I'm Thankful for So Much 3
I am grateful for the opportunity afforded to me when my wife and I married. In my previous involvement we had no children, but I have been given the gift of being a grandfather to my wife's grands.
Grandson Nick, who is well into his adulthood is 30 and is the son of my wife's son. We unfortunately did not have a lot of involvement with him when he was younger, and it wasn't until he was into college that we had a more active part of his life.
He does visit with us on a … (22 comments)

November Challenge:  I'm Thankful for so Much
As we approach the last weeks of the year, we stop in November to enjoy a special meal with family and friends and give thanks for what we have. This is a tradition that started with the colonists as they shared their bounty with the natives the lived amongst.
I would normally save this post of appreciation for last, although I have seen a few posts similar, first.
I will always have a smile on my face, as I am grateful for just being able to put my feet on the carpet in the morning and go … (44 comments)

Halloween Treats:  An October Challenge
The Challenge for October is to serve up some treats that have been helpful for either our business or our blogging.
Several resources came to mind and one that is so prominent to many of us that have been on the site a while are the stream of posts and challenges offered to the dedicated members by Bob Stewart.
He was the face of ActiveRain for so many whether it was on the challenges meant to improve our blog skills, or as the fountain of knowledge many of us appreciated at RainCamps.
Even for those that were around the … (17 comments)

activerain challenges: What Makes Prospect CT A Fine Place to Call Home? Part 3 - 09/30/23 08:16 AM
What Makes Prospect CT A Fine Place to Call Home? Part 3
Many of the residents of Prospect CT  enjoy living in stand alone residential properties. The majority of plots are individual sites and there are very few planned subdivisions in town.  As public services are so limited, there are limited areas for cluster properties like condos.  That doesn't imply that there are nine, however.
There are 2 condo developments in Prospect CT town and they are designed for owners 55 years old minimum.
The smaller of the 2 developments is called Boulder Brook Condos located off of Union City Rd, (Rt 68).   Built in 2005, … (16 comments)

activerain challenges: Learning From the Bumps of Life - 08/31/23 10:10 AM
Learning From the Bumps of Life
The ActiveRain Challenge this month is to offer examples in our personal and professional lives of a learning experience and how we used it to better our lives.  There is no question that we have all had little bumps along the pathway of our lives, that were experiences that offer learning and a drive to improve and not hit that hill again.
Family First
I am no exception to that, as I was taught early on by my parents that family always comes first. It should be a simple lesson to learn and yet some people will fail … (26 comments)

Why Exceptional Doesn't Work for Me
The Challenge this month on ActiveRain is to write a post on why we are exceptional. I find it a bit put offing to want to define myself as exceptional in anything I may do. That's not to say I lack confidence, I just don't want to be so self-assured that it affects my performance.
Would I want to be considered as highly qualified and maybe at times even better than that? Of course, but to start off a day thinking I am already captain of my universe gives me nothing to strive to improve, and that … (46 comments)

Our April Showers Start the Parade of Colors
The adage has always been April Showers bring on May Flowers. While it may have been true once, with the environmental changes across the globe, the consistency is seldom there.
I look at the onset of rain in April as the tears of joy flowing for the end of the drab and cold and the onset of the colors that bring smiles and a far better sense of euphoria.  For the showers that fall in April, start the parade of colors that carry us through the summer.
In our yard, it starts with crocuses, and from … (23 comments)

A First Home is Always Memorable
Home Ownership for people is a dream that many get to appreciate and is different for all. Som people buy a condo to ease into the process, others buy small with the intent of moving up when the need arises.
The April challenge, being hosted by Kathy Streib and Carol Williams is to bare our experiences with our first homes. Never having been one to march to an expected beat, my first home was not a purchase, but a sequence of purchases. See, I built my first home just to prove I could.
I was not starting off … (33 comments)

Marching to a Successful Conclusion
It's March and for many it's the race to pick an elite team and crown them as the best of the best in College Basketball.  It is a long and hard road and it takes athleticism, luck and a lot of hard work to reach the pinnacle.  This is an event like no other and is watched worldwide.
It is a team event that takes a lot of work. It starts with the coaching and their ability to select players that will blend and work together to a common goal. There is a lot of preparation behind the scenes … (21 comments)

Making Blogging Effective and Productive
The ActiveRain Challenge for December, hosted by Brian England  and Jeff Dowler, CRS is to offer up constructive posts that inform and at the same time provide guidance to avoid getting into legal issues.
Getting started blogging does take some effort as it can be an entirely new experience. Most people spend a lot of time on social media but the interactions there tend to be short statements and more as contributing to a conversation. A blog post, however, is meant to be an informative article intended to both enlighten the general audience and also to demonstrate the author's … (14 comments)

Thankful for the Phone Call That Put Me onto ActiveRain
My ride on Active Rain has been a journey of 15 years and may well go for some time yet. It was a phone call from a loan officer that had just found the platform and was impressed with the response he got when he did a blog and ping.
I signed on and spent time appreciating how active some members were with their daily blog posts. I did not know how to blog and did not want to post something that would demonstrate my ineptness for posterity.
It did change, however, as there … (26 comments)

Grateful and Appreciative of Being an American
There is no accounting for where one has been born.  It is another of the mysteries of life. As humans, we all strive, or attempt to make the most of where we live to survive. There are very few places in the world, however, where one has unlimited opportunities available to them as we do here in the United States.
So many people in the world will live a life and not know even the minutest bit of freedom that we can so often take for granted.
I am so grateful for the good fortune that I … (23 comments)

Thankful for the Lady that Shares My Life
We are into the Month of Gratitude and Thanksgiving and it's appropriate that the theme of the challenge this month, hosted by Debe Maxwell is to be Thankful.
I am so thankful for the woman that shares life with me and is always so supportive, my wife Cauna. We have both had marriages prior but we can agree that ours was meant to be and we appreciate each and every day together.
She was supportive when I called her on a Monday afternoon after we had just come back from a Hawaiian vacation, and I told … (17 comments)

Blogging is Not a Sprint, It's a Marathon
There is a Challenge for October hosted by Carol Williams, Aura Alex and Leanne Smith to offer insights as to our blogging success stories. I would venture that better than 80% of the current members are still waiting for their first real business call from their blog and have great disappointment that they didn't get immediate results from their first efforts.
My secondary title: Aesop would have Been a Great Blogger, carries a clue.
A successful blog is developed over a period of time with content that educates and imparts knowledge to a reader that the … (24 comments)

War Stories in Real Estate a September Challenge
The September contest is first a challenge to try and remember things we have tried to forget and offer them up as a testament to our longevity and character.
The Challenge is hosted by Eileen Burns and Kathy Streib and it is somewhat ironic as we would expect horror stories to be presented in October for Halloween.
I would like to believe that I have had a fun time in my real estate career, ironically my anniversary of licensing will be 19 years in October and I had to really think hard to try and come … (12 comments)
