Friday Flags: Waving Proudly at the Top of the Hill
The 9th green at the East Mountain golf course faces a large hill that leads to the clubhouse.
While finishing on the green, I glanced up and the wind had the flag blowing just right, as though to remind me I hadn't found a flag for this series as yet.
I got the shot and had to get out of the way for the group behind us.  I seem to be getting a lot of help from the wind gods to keep the streak going.

Friday Flags: Posing Through the Trees in Watertown CT
While driving into Watertown CT earlier this week, I happened to look up and see an opening through some tall trees.
The gap in the trees allowed a view of a flagpole and a still banner. I started to hope that as I got around the hill, maybe the wind would offer me a break.
I may have to try and switch some of the good fortune to some other type of more rewarding endeavor, as my thoughts seem to get answered quite often. Or at least as far as flags go.
As I drive my … (14 comments)

Friday Flags: Let's Wave for the Lacrosse Team
This week, we traveled to Colchester CT to watch a home game for the lacrosse team on which our younger grandson plays.   We got there a little late, and the home team, Bacon Academy was ahead 2-1, which turned to a tie just to give us an even start.
From across the field, the scoreboard was very visible, as were the flags standing on either side of it.
Our nation's flag was blowing proudly in the wind, but the state flag seemed a bit lazy. I evidently don't have the same degree of wind prominence … (13 comments)

Friday Flags: The Wind 'was-a-blowin' in Waterbury CT
At a recreational park in the East Mountain section of Waterbury last week, it was not difficult to notice the flag at the top of the pole, for the way the wind was trying to pull it off.
It was not only extending the flag, but the gusts were causing the pole to bend as well.
I thought for sure that the flag would be ripped away with the gusts, but it stood proud and resilient. A true testament to the legacy we have created as a country for almost 250 years.
Eventually the wind did slow … (13 comments)

Friday Flags:  A New Welcome to Watertown Corner
On my way to league this past week, I noticed a change at one of the intersections leading into Watertown, CT. Some work had been done to a corner just outside a mostly medical building intersection that also had access to an industrial park.
A new sign board was installed with a big welcome for travelers.
It was better as there was a new pole directly adjacent to the board, that said a lot about the residents and town management as well.
It was a bit of a sheltered corner, but I got enough wind to make … (12 comments)

Friday Flags:  A Naugatuck CT Landmark Full of Pride
I took a quick detour while on my way to an appointment early this week, and it may have been pre-0rdained, as I had a stop sign that also said, here's the place.
The old train station in Naugatuck, which was once a busy spot for commuters going into the New York area has been out of rail service or years, A new one is under construction on another part of the railway.
The old station has been repurposed, and now is a restaurant, called The Station Restaurant
I made a metal note to stop on … (15 comments)

Friday Flags: A Nice View from a Waterbury Roadway
Coming out of a store in Waterbury this week, my attention was caught by a hard waving flag in the parking lot of a building. I pulled into the driveway and the person with me asked what I was doing.  I merely told her I had to take a photo of the flag to continue a post series.
The building has several tenants, but the primary tenant is a German company called Drew Marine. They specialize in heavy duty coatings for ships, and this office is warehousing and administrative.
I knew if I waited briefly, … (17 comments)

Friday Flags:  Waving Proudly in Galloway, NJ
We took a few days to celebrate birthdays, as both my wife and I are April surprises, (Not Really) Her's is the 4th and mine the 21st.

Southern NJ host many fine golf courses, and as we had been to the Marriott Fairways resort before it was time for a return.
Adjacent to the resort, is the Seaview complex as well, which is home to the LPGA ShopRite tournament, which takes place the last week of May.
The tournament is played on the Bayside course, which is an exquisite layout, designed by Donald Ross.
The winner in 2025 was … (13 comments)

Friday Flags:  Flying in Front of a Fast-Food Stop in Watertown CT
A reality of owning cars is an occasional stop to get it serviced. I was waiting for the oil to be changed and across the road the flag was calling to me.
I didn't have a good angle, but as I was waiting for the oil to drip, I had time.
The wind was somewhat cooperating and while it may not have been 100% it was still a pretty sight.

Friday Flags: It's April, and the Golf Courses are Opening
The cold weather is trying to move on, but like some relatives, when they have a good thing, they don't want to go.
As such, it is making for a difficult time to open the golf courses, but it is happening.
I belong to a couple of golf leagues, and their season opening meetings were held this week.
The Senior league at Crestbrook Park in Watertown, had their season opening breakfast event on Wednesday, and the course will open this weekend.
As I looked up to the pro shop, the flag was also inviting and how … (19 comments)

Friday Flags: A Veteran's Post Will Aways Have a Flag
Heere in Prospect, CT, we have a VFW post, #8075, and it is an active group as there are always cars in the lot, and in season their outdoor pavilion always has activities.
The post like many across the country is a safe place for all veterans that have served overseas to protect those that cannot protect themselves.
With the way we find ourselves as the protectors of the world, that makes for membership with different types of memories than when initially founded in Sept, 1899 after the Spanish-American war.

Friday Flags: A New Spot in Watertown CT
We were driving into Watertown CT this past week and at an intersection where a new medical office building was being completed, I noticed an island with a new addition. I just had to stop.
Once I parked, I had to find the right angle as there was quite a maze of wires that prevented a real good shot.
As I am oft heard to say, when taking a shot of our flag, there are no bad ones, just some better than others.
Hopefully, on a bright sunny day, it will cooperate with me again.

Friday Flags: Welcome Back to Prospect CT
We enjoyed the escape for Connecticut to get some relief from the snow and the cold. We visited friends, and family; I got to play some golf, even shot my age on one of the courses in Hiton Head, and just relaxed.
We had gotten a huge drop of snow just before we left and as well had to run to the post office on the way out, I got a shot of the flag at McGrath park here in Prospect
The flag was flying bravely as we left and seemed to be saying it wished us … (15 comments)

Friday Flags:  A Cooperative Flag in Charlotte, NC
I was in the Charlotte. NC area this week making a family connection. The day was quiet, there was very little wind, and as I was challenged by my special cousin Nina Hollander, Broker  to use a local flag, I was in a bit of a hole.
Fortunately, my other cousin Debe Maxwell, CRS came to my rescue, after all that's what family does, and gave me a flag that was proudly flying outside of a construction site.
That flag could be seen from a long way off, which is only appropriate. Better for me that … (20 comments)

Friday Flags:  A 2-Fer from Hilton Head Island
We were out to dinner earlier this week, and as we were being seated, I noticed the wind causing a flag to wave for me. Not being one to miss an opportunity, I ventured out before we ordered and took the shot.
At the end of the dock was a flag and the wind was allowing it to be seen proudly spreading unfurled.
On the adjacent dock, another flag was dueling as well for attention
I can't say one was better than the other, as it is seldom a contest, just an area where the people are … (15 comments)

Friday Flags: Welcome to the Warmth of the Sunshine State
Stopping for gas, and I was thinking of what to offer for my Friday Flags post and didn't want to use another of the snow flags in the to be used files.
While filling up the tank, I saw my answer across the road.
I was in a car dealership lot and the wind was in the wrong direction I walked to a different area to try again.
Mission accomplished and a week with a flag against a warm blue sky.

Friday Flags: The Snow Will Never Cover the Flag
The scene was just too clean to not stop.
The frozen pond, the blanket of white almost 2 feet deep, and the solitary pole with the flag flying clear against the blue sky.
It was just a simple way to bring a little warmth to a cold February Day in Prospect CT

Friday Flags: Show a Little Love for the Town Garage Flag
We have had a difficult and very cold winter so far and it is not over yet. The town garage is active ahead of storms with the trucks getting prepared for the storms as well as residents going in to pull a pail or 2 of sand for walkways.
As I was pulling in it had shown a full wave, but when I got out of the car to take the photo it seemed to tease me and wanted me to spend some time there.
As I was getting ready to take the … (15 comments)

Friday Flags: The School Flag Caught my Attention
In our state, and many others as well, we make our property tax payments in 2 splits. The bills come out with cars and the first half of the real estate payment due in July, and the second half of the real estate payment is due in January.
I made my way to town hall to drop off the second payment and as I walked back to my car, something was trying to get my attention.
The flag in front of the Regional Middle School, Long Meadow was trying to get my attention.

Friday Flags: The Prospect CT Town Hall
Driving through town there were trees waving with the gusts. As I started to reach the town center, I noticed the flags in front of the Prospect CT Town hall.
There was a lot of wind as I was driving, but once I stopped, it seemed to disappear.
The looked so good with the American flag and the POW flag against the blue sky. I needed to wait and see if I could get lucky.
After 15 minutes, this is the best I could get, and I am wondering if it really blew once I drove out of … (14 comments)
