Wreaths Across America and in Connecticut
Today, December is known as Wreaths Across America and is officially noted in Washington DC, where 300,000 Maine wreaths will be placed at the graves in Arlington National Cemetery.
The annual ride to DC is often called “America’s Longest Veterans’ Parade.” It starts in Maine, and then makes its way south through New England and the mid-Atlantic states before arriving in DC.
The Caravan, estimated to be a mile long, stopped in Southbury CT escorted by state and local police. The Wreaths Across America’s founders, Morrill and Karen Worcester, were in Southbury on Tuesday of this week.

Although today is Flag Day, it is not a legal holiday. In our area there will be very few parades, but at the very least the flag will wave proudly on all state and municipal buildings, like ours, many a residential property.

Falg Day is a day of recognition of the adoption of the Flag of the united States by the Second Continental Congress back in 1777.

memorial of flags: A Field of Flags Blooms In Prospect Ct - 03/26/10 07:09 AM
Today, at the intersection of Rts 68 & 69 in Prospect Ct, blooms a field of American Flags. The Field of Flags was started almost five years ago at a local church, with each representing an American service man or woman killed in Iraq or Afghanistan.
This flag display was put up on Friday, March 26 and will stay here until it's taken down on April 18.
