mother natures beauty: The Fall Colors are Here in Central CT, 3 - 10/20/23 03:14 PM
The Fall Colors are Here in Central CT, 3
I noted a significant difference in colors this week and although I'm not certain, it could be reaching peak.
The lake was again primed but a lot more of the restaurant building could be seen this week, where it was shielded by the trees, leaves last week.

And the trees on the opposite side of the pond were just as spectacular.
I took the walk up to the second hole as it offers a vista not only of the fairway but as the mountain on the opposite side of the valley.

A Feeder For Two Please
This past week as I was looking out the window I saw a very large female cardinal picking at seeds in the feeder. I saw a bit of movement from the other side and went to a different window to get a peek.

Could it just be that papa knows to give space to an irritable mother to be and decided to just stay out of the way?

mother natures beauty: It's Fall and it came on us Quickly in Central Connecticut - 10/11/15 11:25 AM
We are early into October and just a few short days ago we were into very warm weather.  I was in the parking lot of the Golf Course at Crestbrook waiting for our tee time and we were waiting due to a frost delay. Across the parking lot the season of Fall was very visible.

It seems that literally overnight the colors jumped onto the trees.  This morning, the frost was very visible on the grass, and the mist off the water gave it all an eerie sense.  It does seem to be an early color change and hopefully it doesn't mean as harsh a … (28 comments)

mother natures beauty: Our Yard Isn't Always White - 06/24/15 06:57 AM
Show us Your Home for The Summer
Many of us here in the Northeast have shown the photos of the heavy snow accumulations we get in winter.  We do know there is color in the dormant vegetation underneath. Part of our distress with the snow and cold is we do know how pleasant our yards can be when in full bloom.
We have a yard where there is always a pleasant color on a bush or flower in bloom.  It was part of the reason we appreciated the house when we bought it.
Trying to do an overhead, I'll try to offer a glimpse of what we enjoy.

mother natures beauty: Nature's Beauty Can be Copied but Never Duplicated - 06/14/15 09:58 AM
I noticed a bit of color on the ground as I walked along a fairway recently. As I got closer I realized it was a  butterfly, and it stayed on the ground as if posing for me.

The yellow and black so striking against the green of the grass.  It then turned to be somewhat ironic that we would have more butterflies around us the following day as we were attending a wedding of our niece.

The second and third were made as wedding favors by a friend of the bride and they did an incredible job, but still not the perfection of Mother Nature.

mother natures beauty: Welcome Fall, Where are the colors? - 09/23/14 01:11 AM
We have made the transition into the fall with the passing of the equinox. From here on out the colors should begin their transition and in short order with the cool nights and lower temperatures Mother Nature will paint her canvas.
For now, however, the colors are still quite green and a quick walk of the yard showed just a slight blush of red in an otherwise very green oak.

Good thing I put out the MUMs for a bit of color to start the season.

mother natures beauty: The Colors of The Hibiscus Flower - 08/17/14 11:30 AM
The floral displays of the hibiscus plant are large very colorful blooms, that can be as large as 8 inches across. In a recent stop at a botanical garden, we saw several large hibiscus plants that had several different colorsall briliant.

The flower can be so pretty and with the size of the bulbs, they just begged for a photo.

mother natures beauty: My Spring Flowers Are In Bloom Finally - 04/26/14 09:40 AM
Spring Found it's Way to Prospect CT
We have officially found Spring here in Prospect CT, after such a long cold snowy winter. My crocus's made their way, quickly and then we got another snap of cold. The daffodils are out and they are shining all over the yard. They are a welcome addition to a garden as the multiply so well.
Either the cold weather or the squirrels have been at the bulbs, as there should be quite a few tulip plants pushing their leaves out of the ground by now. The planting area along the front of the house once had at least 100 … (13 comments)

mother natures beauty: A Desert Bloom that is Not as Pretty as it Looks - 09/19/13 01:05 AM
A Desert Bloom that is Not as Pretty as it Looks
While driving along a roadway in the Senora AZ area we noticed some low bushes with large lily-like flowers. They seemed so out of place in an arid location. Remembering what we had read while visiting the Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens, we did not touch them. That was well remembered information.

A little search on Google, and we have the Sacred Datura, a lily like flower that normally blooms at night. The flowers are large, but all parts of the plane are poisonous. We didn't get down to smell … (9 comments)

mother natures beauty: A Touch of Color That Caught the Eye . . . Friday Photo - 01/17/13 10:55 PM
A Touch of Color That Caught the Eye . . . Friday Photo
Here in Prospect CT, we are in the middle of our winter and with the snow that fell this week the white makes for stark contrasts. Some mornings I will sit in out breakfast nook and have a cup of coffee while working on the laptop. As I sat there a flash of color just caught my eye.

It was certainly out of place, with no leaves on the choke cherry, and the flutter made me think some debris was blown into the tree. As I looked … (11 comments)
