Perception Vs Reality
I saw a series of photos on a site and appreciated the care that was taken to get that perfect shot. It was obvious that in each instance the photographer had skills that not only allowed him or her to see the shot, but also to get it right.
Was it just a matter of a single photo, like capturing a rainbow before it vaporizes, or was it a matter of many attempts to capture the perfect angle and timing?
Take the photos of the girl with the flick of the head to capture that arc.

The Historic Steam Boat  African Queen
The restored African Queen, made famous in the movie of the same name by Charlie (Humphrey Bogart)and Rose (Katherine Hepburn) now sits at harbor for short excursions in Key Largo Fl.

Not at all like the adventures of Charlie and Rose as they escape the Germans at the onset of World War I to make their way to Lake Victoria in Central Africa in search of the Louisa - a German gunship that patrols the Tanganyika shore.
They are worlds apart in personalities and if you haven't seen the movie it is well worth the time.  After all … (21 comments)

Setting A Course At Sunset
We are away from home and as we were walking back to the hotel we saw a lone kayaker trying to get back to the dock as the sun was setting.
She was paddling very quickly and I managed to get a shot of her in the path of the setting sun.
Shortly after she passed I got a last shot of the sun as it went down behind the low cloud cover.
Tomorrow is another day and maybe it won't be so overcast.

Sunrise At A Volcano  Haleakala Maui
Some years back, while on a vacation to the Hawaiian Islands we got up in the middle of the night to make the zig-zag drive to the rim of the Haleakala Volcano, a dormant area to see the sunrise.
We were forewarned to dress warmly as it was in the high 30's at the summit of the volcano. As the hues to the clouds started to change colors, we were rewarded for our patience.

We stayed up a couple of hours just to appreciate the views and it was as if we were on a lunar escape with the … (31 comments)

A Last Grasp At Sunlight Reflected off The Clouds
On a stay at Siesta Key in FL a few years ago we sat on the beach waiting for the sunset as they are usually special over water.
A glance up and the view was almost of not even better as the last rays of the sun were reflected off the clouds.
There's beauty all around us if we just open eyes and take the time to see it.

photos: Even Ducks Try to Walk on Water - 05/28/17 06:20 PM
As I was entering a park in Watertown CT this week, I noticed what appeared to be a pair of ducks standing on the water of a lake. I knew this was odd, as ducks take to water quite well, but to be able to walk on it is extraordinary.
A couple of hours later, as I was leaving the park, the ducks were no longer at that spot, but the answer was revealed.
The ducks had placed just enough weight on a support float to make it sink and give the appearance of them standing on water.

photos: It's Sunset, but the Sun Disappeared - 03/12/17 08:26 AM
There is nothing like a sunset at the water but where is the sun when you are on the East Coast?  It's not where you would want it to be for sure.
Such is the case when we were watching the dusk approach at Palm Beach last night.  It was high tide and people were getting in a last minute dip and to see the sunset we would have had to look over the buildings behind us and that is not where we saw the beauty.

On the way to get to the beach, we had a bit of a delay as a drawbridge … (11 comments)

photos: Driving Off into the Sunset After a Pleasant Visit - 03/05/17 06:34 PM
We have spent a few days in Hilton Head SC getting a jump on spring and me a few days on a golf course.  While coming back over the bridge that span the Inter-coastal Waterway near Hilton Head, I stopped at the top of the bridge to get a last glimpse of the sunset colors.

It was a fun few days but we are still looking for a few better before we get back north.

photos: A Hawk Eye on the Ball Flight - 06/29/16 12:34 PM
Sitting on the rail of the bridge that allows walkers to cross from the 9th green to the 10th green was this red tail hawk.  It seemed unfazed, and possibly not impressed with the golfers on the tee waiting their turn to hit.
It took flight, possibly to find a better caliber of golfer, or maybe just breakfast.

photos: A Family's Road Side Memorial in Watertown CT - 02/21/16 09:15 AM
While showing houses for sale in Watertown CT today, I had passed what appeared to be eagles on a hunt.  I let it go until the end of my visits and then came back to them.  It was a group of 3 eagles that appeared to be diving to catch a potential meal.

The largest of the 3 eagles had a sign encouraging photos as well as the notation: Eagles Watching Over you."

Draped around the eagles head was a chain which had 6 tags attached to it. The first tag just read, Forever Mourned, Forever Honored.
On the other 5 tags were the names of family members, all … (18 comments)

photos: Wordless Wednesday I Said Don't Disturb Me - 01/20/16 12:26 AM
We all have our moments when we know we just need to kick back and re-charge our energy so we can continue with our tasks. As much as we hope it won't happen, someone will just feel the need to put their priorities ahead of ours.
When we do get disturbed, we are not happy and our first inclination is to just lash out, with a sense of anger.
That's when we have to just re-think and settle down, after all we might miss something even more important.

photos: Roadside Artistry in Central Connecticut - 01/16/16 10:20 PM
While driving back from showings recently, I came upon the head of an eagle poised alongside the roadway.  Some individual had seen the potential in the formation and taken the time to paint the work on both sides of the stone.

I tried to take a photo from both sides, but the sun was preventing me from doing so.  It was done so carefully and had to have been done in stages but it's creative nature was so good that it was not stopped.

photos: Throw Back Thursdays, When All Were Unified - 12/17/15 09:06 AM
One of our friends sent me this clip this week.  Her mother had passed recently and she had been a long time friend of my family.  The clip was taken from a paper right after World War II, and it was honoring 2 brothers that had returned from the war.  Joe Silva, my father, and his brother Tony Silva.
Both had been drafted. My father was drafted into the Navy and served in the Pacific. My uncle was drafted into the Army, and was sent to Georgia where he became a tank driver and ended up in Europe with General Patton's 4th Armored … (17 comments)

photos: A Mushroom With an Attitude Wordless Wednesday - 10/14/15 03:36 AM
A Mushroom can also be called a Toadstool
This little gem caught my eye at the base of an oak tree in a center island of a neighborhood I was in earlier today.  I threw my hat down in front of it for perspective on size as it was almost 3 feet across.  If this was a real toadstool, the legs on the beast that sat on it would have to have been the size of a turkey leg.  I touched just a corner of it with my shoe and it did move and shake.
I left it there for someone else … (16 comments)

A Full Moon at Sunrise in Prospect CT
As I was heading out for my Sat morning ritual, I saw that the moon was still up and it was showing brightly, with a hit of morning colors just around it. An October full or Harvest/Hunters moon at it's best. It demanded a photo opportunity. I captured a shot with the trees in full color to frame it.

As I got to a more open area, I was able to just catch the colors of the sunrise coming up over the eastern horizon, with the shades of orage hitting the clouds.

A Touch of Color That Caught the Eye . . . Friday Photo
Here in Prospect CT, we are in the middle of our winter and with the snow that fell this week the white makes for stark contrasts. Some mornings I will sit in out breakfast nook and have a cup of coffee while working on the laptop. As I sat there a flash of color just caught my eye.

It was certainly out of place, with no leaves on the choke cherry, and the flutter made me think some debris was blown into the tree. As I looked … (11 comments)

Why Aren’t There More Pictures of that House?
It’s been proven that over 85% of all real estate transactions are started by buyers looking at houses online. With that type of potential, a listing agent should not put the listing into the system until a complete profile of photos has been taken so that the first impression of the listing into syndication gets its best exposure.

I recently had a buyer send me an email on a property that had been put into the system with just one photo of the exterior. As they would be traveling a bit … (13 comments)

A Promise of a Better Day . . . Sunday Photos
We have had a bad stretch of weather this past week. It's been overcast with spotty rain and just unpleasant. Most of this being created by Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene as it moved through the area, very slowly.
As I made my unday Morning pilgrimage, with a bit of a mist and lots of clouds, it papeared that we were going to be in for more of the same. And then it started to lighten, without the chorus.

The sky shown blue with white wisps of clouds and the … (12 comments)

Back to School, Time for Learning . . Friday Photos
In most areas of the country, school has already started. Here in the Northeast, with the recent storms, school starts have been delayed, and some won't get opened up until late next week. Still, the value of the education is so important. Kids, sometimes fail to understand that a little attention and effort at this stage of their lives can allow them to get better jobs down the road and to live a more comfortable life.
Not all will grasp that unfortunately, and that may well demonstrate itself often as … (12 comments)

photos: Wednesday, Ooops, Tuesday Photo . . Still a little Confused? - 11/17/09 02:27 AM
Today is Wednesday, Tuesday November 17. As I walked out to get my paper, with a temp of 47 greeting a dash of color alongside my driveway was hard not to notice. I have a buffer between the lawn and the driveway just for a break and at the very edge of the buffer I have a row of Meidiland roses, a dozen bushes total.
Not that I am an expert on roses, but a while back a friend had told me about these low growing bushes that start to bud in late summer and will continue to flower through the summer. This … (16 comments)
