For 2025 It's Starting to Look Like Spring in Connecticut
They just can't help themselves as they have been waiting long enough for enough opportunity to just break out.
As I looked out onto the front yard, I saw color and it wasn't just brown.
Daffodils in white and yellow and some purple and white from hyacinths.
The red maple tree has reddish tint and even the grass will start to show its true colors soon.
They just can't help themselves, as they have waited long enough to show up.
I can hardly wait even if it means cutting the grass.

Blooms A Poppin' in Prospect CT 5
We have had some warm weather this past week here in Prospect CT, and more of the colors are showing up to be appreciated.
The phlox is fully blooming and starting to spread.  I will need to trim it back a bit.
Right behind the rock garden and to hide a rock that was too hard to remove is a pink weigela shrub, which seems to get larger blossoms each year.

Up closer to the house are the azaleas which are all strutting their colors to be appreciated.
Along the driveway the day lilies are not yet to be … (13 comments)

Blooms A Poppin' in Prospect CT  4
We are almost completely there with the spring blooms in Prospect.  The daffodils have just about run their course although there are some hanging on.
The phlox at the bottom of the yard that we call the rock garden is in bloom with a carpet of pink. The stragglers of daffodils add some tall color and one can see the choke cherry just behind them all starting it's pink covering of flowers.
Closer to the house, the white azalea bushes are showing their colors, and the daffodils are just about done here.
The pink azaleas are asking for … (15 comments)

Blooms A Poppin' in Prospect CT,  3
Early Sunday afternoon of last week, I was driving into Prospect and as I passed the Medical office building, I was taken enough with the view to turn around and appreciate the almost barren lot.
In another few weeks, it will not be as impressive a view even though the trees will be all fully loaded with leaves.
The landscaping is very well groomed. On this day the parking lot of adorned with blossoms on the trees as well as azaleas in blossom.
When loaded with cars and leaves on the trees it may not even get a … (15 comments)

Blooms A Poppin in Prospect CT, 2
Our weather was slightly stalled this week as we had cooler temps and a bit of rain.
The spring colors may have been slowed, but they still showed additional presence.
The pink weeping willow is showing its colors well and is beautiful when they flow with the wind.
The rock garden at the bottom of the driveway is coming to life and the daffodils have blossomed and greet all that drive by.
The phlox in front of it is starting to show signs of spring and that white/pink carpet should be in full blossom shorty.
It's still too early for … (14 comments)

spring colors: Appreciating the Colors of Spring, Southern Style - 03/22/24 04:59 PM
Appreciating the Colors of Spring, Southern Style
Out Connecticut weather is a typical Nee England Mode with a heavy rainfall yesterday which was snow in the northwest part of the state.
Having spent time in the south earlier in the month we at least have the colorful flowers still in our minds.
The entry way of or resort had a colorful array of rhododendrons, and if not for the leaves, I would not have recognized the plants as they were landscaped as small trees and not the typical bushes, we have in the north.

The flowers were so large and the petals so perfect in … (18 comments)

Spring Blossoms are Coming to an End in Prospect CT
The spring blooms are coming to an end in our yard and it has been a most pleasant array of colors.
The daffodils have run their course, but there is an appreciation that next year they will be more bountiful as they spread their roots to allow for more blooms the following year.
The flox in the rock garden is starting to make its colors known and once we get through the rains they will blossom for at least a week.
And the capper to that corner of the yard is the choke cheery tree … (15 comments)

spring colors: We Finally Felt Enough Warmth to Sprout our Colors - 04/16/22 12:06 PM
We Finally Felt Enough Warmth to Sprout our Colors
We have the first of our spring flowers and while they are little later than normal, they are much appreciated and colorful.

The daffodils are wonderful for the way they sprout in groups, and even better as they propagate over the summer and come out even more plentiful the following year.
Not very far from us I saw a blanket of daffodils on another lawn.  We should be getting more of them over the next few days and shortly after that the tulips will arrive. A great time of year for the colors and the … (16 comments)

It's Just Not Warm Enough to Break Through
The calendar shows early April and normally days would be in the high 40's to mid 50's or better. But that is not the case as the cold lingers and the blooms of spring can't come out to shine.
These crocuses started to sprout and just seem to have stalled as the sun is just not there to invite them out.
Same with these Hiacinth's that are trying to sprout but aren't quite ready to leave the warmth of the ground.
It's the same with the daffodils. All dressed up but still too cold to sprout and … (15 comments)

spring colors: It's Officially Spring - 03/20/22 02:27 PM
It's Officially Spring
At 11:33 AM EST we officially entered the Spring of 2022. It is 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness but going forward we will gain a few extra minutes of daylight all the way to late June.
The temperatures are still on the cool side only into the mid 50's so the colors of spring are slow to develop. I did see a few areas with potential and stopped to take a couple of photos.

As we get a little further into the spring days, the temps will warm, and the colors will pop as well. I can … (17 comments)

spring colors: The Colors Said Welcome Home - 04/23/17 05:10 PM
The flowers are starting to really burst forth to announce the warmer weather. Our yard is no exception and as I came in after doing what agents do all day, it was a joy to see the welcome signs out for me.
The daffodils were put in the lower garden with the flox starting to show signs of getting their buds going soon.

It is pretty, but unfortunatley it doesn't last very long.

spring colors: The Colors Are Starting to Show in Prospect CT - 04/09/17 10:34 AM
As I walked around the yard early this morning picking up light branches and trash that had dropped over the winter, I also took a few minutes to take photos of the spring colors starting to emerge.
The crocus are out and I had a variety of colors.

The most plentiful being the yellow but across the yard I had the purple and white as well.
The daffodil sprouts are all over the place and I even saw the hyacinths and tulips sprouts making themselves known.

While they may not be much to see now, I am so anxious for spring that I''ll accept this … (12 comments)

spring colors: Things One Can See On a Golf Course - 03/04/17 02:43 PM
The golf season will soon be here for me in New England.  Not wanting to wait any longer I have ventured south for a break and to steal a bit of warmer weather.  While hitting a few balls, I took the opportunity to also appreciate the beauty around me as well.
I fin that as my game matures I am getting more opportunities to see areas I may have missed in my younger days.
The stand of azaleas nearing full spring colors at the turn in a cart path.
An errant shot near this hole and one will just concede the ball and walk … (22 comments)

spring colors: It's Bland But That's a Good Thing - 02/26/17 02:05 PM
We are approaching the end of February and historically March is know to come in fierce, like a lion.  Just a few short days ago we still had maybe 6 inches of snow on the ground, but with some unseasonably warm days and a fierce rain storm, we can see the barren ground again.
i am anxiously awaiting the spring and the opportunity to get outside and not be all bundled up.   We have not had a very bad winter, but my patience for the snow gets shorter every year.
I think I would welcome that first mow of the season, for now.

spring colors: Maybe Not the Azaleas of Agusta, But Still Pretty - 05/17/15 07:46 AM
The Azaleas Share their Colors in Prospect CT

After such a brutal winter, the colors of spring are so welcome.  Our daffodils have just about gone away as have the tulips and the hyacinths.
It's time for the azaleas and the rhododendrons to share their colors and they are just about exploded with their colors.

The winter did take it's toll on the rhododendrons as a couple of them lost a lot of their leaves and are very slow in coming around
The flox in the rock garden is into it's prime and we will have the rest of the area planted with begonias this week for the rest of … (23 comments)

spring colors: We've Turned that Corner, The signs are There - 04/19/15 05:30 AM
It has to be Spring, all the signs are there.  The yards are active with owners working on them to get the winter debris cleared away.  The parks are jammed with youngsters getting ready for their spring sports and their parents just watching and appreciating the warm weather.
The golf courses are opened and the winter rust is being chipped away, one swing a a time.
The colors are returning as well.  We have several areas of the yard where the daffodils sprout early spring.  Almost all of the chutes are up, but this early bunch, just wanted to race out to be appreciated first.  It … (16 comments)
