Be Brief, Be Complete - The First Time
Most of us have heard the old expression about land. They’re not making any more of it, hence the value. Well, the same is true of everyone’s time. Some of my clients drive me to consider drink. I ask for name, address, phone number, date and time. I receive a reply with only one component of my request. So I ask again. The second request yields the second variable. Thus, way too many emails are required to acquire basic information. Did they read my request? Or, is it that their attention span is so … (1 comments)

Notary Respect
“When you arrive at the building, please use the service entrance.” That was the closing sentence from a client for an assignment in a midtown Manhattan office building. I called, and made it quite clear that was not the way I would proceed. “I do not use the back door; I am a commissioned officer of the State Department of the State of New York on official business. I do not use the messenger or pizza delivery entrance. If you will kindly confirm to me that a pass will be waiting for me in the main lobby, I will be … (1 comments)

A Lesson from the Barnyard
It was a mild spring morning and the little pony decided to visit other areas of the barnyard.  All winter the pony was in the corral listening to horse talk. It was time to make some new friends. The first stop was to the pig pen, and that resulted in the first shock of the day. The little pony had been raised responsibly, and knew some language was bad talk. At the pig pen the pony heard one pig call another a porker, others kept referring to their peers as hams. The pony knew these were offensive … (4 comments)

Unilateral Commitments
Hello, Roundy Round Tires, do you have a Never Flat for my Go Go Mobile? Great, I might be stopping by later this afternoon, say 2PM. Can you assure me of instant service if I decide to show up? No, I don’t wish to make an appointment at this time; I just want your assurance that if I decide to honor you with my august presence; I will be instantly accommodated.
Farfetched? Consider the notary version: Is this the notary savant? I am thinking about having some legal papers notarized, will you be available at 2PM. Well, I have not really … (1 comments)

The Brothel Notary
It’s not exactly the phrase I would use to advertise my notary services, but I have been called “The Brothel Notary” on more than one occasion. I suppose at first reading the term can be a bit misunderstood. Perhaps a bit of explanation just might save both my reputation and marriage!
Similar to the sharing of “notary performance” information by signing services, title and escrow companies – it has come to my attention that the name http://kenneth-a-edelstein.com  has been “passed around” by another “industry” here in New York City. I get frequent calls to go to brothels. There, I admitted … (2 comments)
