The Whale Watching season is upon us, and Palos Verdes homes owners don’t have far to go to see these whales off our coastline. The season has officially started, and according to the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, 499 whales have been counted going south, 1 headed north, and 17 calf pairs have been counted going south as of yesterday. This number is higher than past years, and in the last two years the numbers have been growing. Los Serenos de Point Vicente will be offering the Eastern Bluff Hike at Trump National Golf Course on January 27, 2013, at 3:00 p.m.

It is time again for owners of Palos Verdes homes (and/or tenants) who will have children entering Kindergarten in the Fall of 2013 to be planning for the Kindergarten Roundup Information Program. This is an important event if you have Kindergarten age children because some Palos Verdes elementary schools are impacted. California Law (SB 1381) relating to the age requirement for Kindergarten enrollment was changed. The new law requires a child be five years old on or before October 1st. Sales for Palos Verdes real estate single family homes in the first 20 days of December are higher than sales for the first 20 days of last month (27). 34 Palos Verdes houses have been reported as sold to date since December 1, 2012. (It may take an additional week for some sales to post after the actual close of escrow). The average sales price for single family Palos Verdes homes from December 1st to date is $1,296,197 which is down from last month’s average of $1,301,000.

There were three different company names (Remax Palos Verdes, Remax Execs and Remax Beach Cities) for my 600 fellow company agents and now we are all united under one name – RE/MAX Estate Properties. Palos Verdes real estate statistics for November 2012 again indicate a slight dip in sales. 48 Palos Verdes houses sold in November which is a decrease from the 55 homes that sold in October. Pending sales are just about the same – in November there were 66 Palos Verdes single family homes pending compared to 69 in October. The number of active Palos Verdes homes for sale in November decreased to 130 homes compared to 152 homes in October. Our inventory of homes for sale continues to be the lowest in recent memory. The Rancho Caninos Dog Park at Point Vicente Park/Civic Center is now open. Located at 30940 Hawthorne Boulevard in Rancho Palos Verdes, this half acre park has separate areas for large and small dogs. There is also seating and shaded areas where “parents” can enjoy watching their furry pets have a good time.

We have less than a month to go before the end of 2012 and I was curious how our sales of Palos Verdes homes compared to last year. 585 single family Palos Verdes homes sold to date this year compared to 526 homes this time last year – up 11.2%. Average sales price is just about the same. The average sales price to date is $1,356,414 compared to $1,360,363 December 6, 2011.

Above is a photo of some of the volunteers that have helped restore our local Three Sisters Reserve to attract birds once again. Since we have had all sorts of environmental changes to the land, (fire, weather, etc.) it has taken several years of hard work to get this green life to appear at the Reserve. Palos Verdes homes owners and other volunteers have made these changes possible.
