On Friday, September 9, 2011, the 54th annual Portuguese Bend National Horse Show will be held at Ernie Howlett Park. This event offers three full days of a wide variety of special equestrian events. Both riding rings will be scheduled with activities such as the $10,000 Seahorse Jumper Classic which challenges some of the West Coast’s finest Jumper riders over a difficult and exciting course.

Our beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula is not immune from natural disasters. Palos Verdes homes owner should be aware of how to respond during a disaster (whether fire, flood or earthquake) and of the basic emergency training programs that are available to us. Every city on the Peninsula has some sort of volunteer organization that will play an integral role to support response and recovery operations during a disaster. In some areas the tasks that are needed will include helping to provide patient care and triage, completing damage inspection reports, assisting with emergency communication and disseminating public information within the community.

The fair will have its “Friday Teen Fun Night” opening the carnival on Friday, June 10, 2011, from 5:00 -10:00 p.m. Local youth can purchase discount tickets through their middle school or high school for an evening of fun. Palos Verdes Estates annual Special Refuse Collection (bulky trash) is scheduled for Saturday, April 30th. This is the one time a year that you are allowed to place your items on curbside for pick up. The City’s waste hauler will pick up furniture, appliances, water heaters, refrigerators (compressors removed) stoves, sinks, lawn furniture and more. They will not however, pick up construction waste or electronic waste.

On Saturday, April 16, 2011, from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m., Terranea Resort will be hosting the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy and Art to Grow On, Inc., for Spring Impressions, a family coastal hike and children’s art workshop.
