Did you know that the Portuguese Bend Nature Reserve is comprised of ten ecological reserves on 399 acres of the Palos Verdes Peninsula?  The preserve is made up of the Vista del Norte Ecological Reserve, AquaAmarga Ecological Reserve, Vicente Bluffs Ecological Reserve, Alta Vicente Ecological Reserve, Abalone Cove Ecological Reserve, Three Sisters Ecological Reserve, Canyons Ecological Reserve, Forrestal Ecological Reserve, San Ramon Ecological Reserve and Ocean Trails Ecological Reserve.  These ten were joined together into the Nature Reserve in 2005. The Portuguese Bend Nature Reserve consists of rolling hills, steep canyons, coastal sage scrub habitat and fragrant and dought resistant shrubs and flowering plants.

On Saturday, February 19th, at 7:00 p.m., Rancho Palos Verdes Park Rangers will be offering a night hike for the public.  This introductory hike will be free and participants will learn about the Palos Verdes environment, will, experience the Preserve, and observe its nocturnal inhabitants.  The City of Rancho Palos Verdes has contracted with the Mountains Recreation Conservation Authority (MRCA) for park ranger services within the Preserve to protect this unique and open area.

The Georgeff Canyon or as it is sometimes called the George F. Canyon  is a 36 acre park that was generously contributed to the City of Rolling Hills Estates by Robert & Roland Stein, Sandra Stein Haveson and Arthur Hale Sr.  in memory of David N.
