points of interest: Chandler Preserve - Things To Do In Palos Verdes - 03/14/11 01:48 PM

When many of us hear the name Chandler we immediately think of the sand and gravel pit in Rolling Hills Estates.  Linden H. Chandler, was the original owner; he moved here from Colorado when he was 9 and became an influential figure during the early growth of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.  Chandler was an active member of Los Rancheros Vistadores and rode in many Rose Parades.  Perhaps this is why he so clearly wanted  to see the land in this area preserved for horseback riding and hikers.  The Linden H. Chandler Preserve was created in 1993 through a sale and donation by the property … (1 comments)

On my first visit to the completed Terranea Resort on the Palos Verdes Peninsula  last year, I thought it would be interesting to figure out where the former Marineland attractions sat in relation to the current Terranea Resort property.  As part of the Marineland Reunion at Terranea a few weeks ago, there was a Self-Guided Walk (see below) to do just that.

Here is a little history about Marineland.  When it opened in 1954, it was the largest oceanarium in the world.  Most of the undersea life was displayed in huge tanks.  It was home to Corky, Orky and Bubbles, the whale.  Marineland … (0 comments)

After spending last weekend at the new Terranea Resort,  I can say that it is fabulous and I recommend it to all, including Palos Verdes residents.  The views are spectacular.  We took several walks along the trails at the ocean's edge.  We walked down to the beach and sat on the rocks and listened to the surf "chatter" as it rolled back out over the stones.  There is even a cave near the jetty.  We laid on sand and took in the beauty of nature.  Click here to continue reading....
