Imagine boarding a high-speed train in Macon and 45 minutes later arriving in downtown Atlanta. Spend the short trip working on your laptop or resting comfortably, as your train zips past frustrated drivers fighting traffic on I-75. With travel time of less than 1-hour, the train would be an opportunity for local residents to take advantage of all the shopping, sporting events and entertainment, Atlanta has to offer. More importantly, high-speed rail would make it convenient for Middle Georgians to commute to Atlanta for employment, possibly turning Macon into Atlanta's newest suburb. Many residents in middle ga are surprised to learn that there is a beautiful new state park and fishing area right in our backyard. Opened this past June, the lake is over 100 acres and stocked with large mouth bass, bluegill bream, channel catfish and sunfish. The lake is now open for fishing either by boat or along the shore. The boat ramp is easily accessible and there is plenty of parking. Eventually, the entire area will be an estimated 800 acre state park and wildlife management area.
