hawaiian vacation: The Hawaiian Islands Do Not Talk to Everybody - 06/28/17 06:04 PM

When I spent 6 weeks last winter in Kailua-Kona, I talked with a lot of people on the Big Island. They say the islands talk to you, and the Big Island, in particular, seems to speak to men more than women. Which is really unusual because my husband doesn't much care for the Hawaiian Islands. I'm the person Pele speaks to.

However, nobody I invited to Hawaii wants to go. My assistant said she doesn't want to work while she is there and she has no one to replace her. My point is she has to work anyway, why not there? To … (9 comments)

hawaiian vacation: Returning to Ka'anapali on Island of Maui After 12 Years - 01/04/17 11:33 AM
When people ask me how many times I've been to Hawaii, it seems like an odd question because I don't really know. My first trip was 1978. But I do recall the first trip I made to Maui with my husband. At least I thought I did. I seem to remember making the trip with him from Minneapolis but he assured me no, we definitely flew from Sacramento one winter.
A quick check of my computer for photos showed yes, indeed, it was 2004. The hotel we stayed at had a bar on the beach, and we drank Mai Tais while wiggling … (8 comments)

hawaiian vacation: I Finally Took the Plunge in Kailua-Kona - 12/04/16 11:17 AM
One of the perks at my house in Hawaii is the fact I get to use my tenant's Netflix. Although, I have probably changed their profile in such a way that they will be offered shows they deem highly offensive. They do some kind of missionary work, converting people to Christianity. I've been watching their Amazon stream, too, and binge-watched a bunch of episodes of Good Girls Revolt. It's certainly no Mad Men quality, and there are many things that annoy me about the show,  but it's still entertaining.
A thing that stands out from that show is that 20-year-olds should … (15 comments)

hawaiian vacation: When Your Restaurant Closes for 2 Days in Hawaii - 09/08/15 03:58 AM
The main restaurant at my hotel in Hawaii closed for two days; I guess Mondays and Tuesdays are too slow here on the Big Island to justify keeping it open. That left the beach bar for dinner, probaby sandwiches and salads, or I could hop the shuttle to the Mauna Kea. I had a great time there for all of 45 minutes on Saturday, but that was the clambake, which was held at a different restaurant.
My hotel at Hapuna Beach feels like it's run by tax accountants, except there is no place to shop. Oh, there's a gift shop but it's … (8 comments)

hawaiian vacation: Websites, Cat Puke and Hawaiian Crabbing Feast - 09/05/15 04:56 AM
Even while in Hawaii, unpleasant things continue in my life. I am still struggling with my website; it's a never-ending story from last June. A few days ago, the website guys rolled back my site because they had made some sort of error, or inserted code where it should not have been, I dunno, but they wiped out 3 of my blogs. They are having a problem because I have a photo on top of a photo and a slideshow, and javacript errors are happening in WordPress.
In my mind, you'd think they'd spend 30 minutes on this project and they would … (18 comments)
