What I've discovered is some people love red ginger and some do not. I've heard some landscapers warn against red ginger because it's so invasive and spreads like crazy. Several I had spoken to suggested planting soap ginger instead. There are not a lot of commercial places to buy plants in Kailua-Kona. It's more about who you know and family nurseries.
A family nursery is just what you think it is. You go over to somebody's house in Kona, and they dig up something from their yard.
