nashville area: We are Nashville, I am Nashville - 05/17/10 10:31 AM
We are Nashville, I am Nashville
Many of you know that I grew up in the Oak Hill area of Nashville, TN and absolutely love it that I am living here again.  I have remained silent on the Nashville flood so far - I have only commented about it on my facebook page and through my twitter account.  The reason for this is that I have been very saddened by the flooding of Nashville and it has taken me awhile to be able to talk about it.
Saturday, May 1, 2010 I drove down to Spring Hill to meet with some … (8 comments)

nashville area: Giovanni's is Nashville's Newest Restaurant for Fine Italian Dining! - 03/13/09 08:56 AM
I had the lovely experience of eating at Giovanni's before the Keith Urban show last week.  I found it to be remarkably delicious!  I hate to say that, sadly, i don't have any pictures of the places (which is a beautiful sit down restaurant).  But I do have the memory of my taste buds and they are giving this place two thumbs up!
I was attending a wine tasting upstairs, so small hors d'oeuvres were first.  Giovanni's served us bruschetta, ham and brie sandwich bites, bite-sized crab cakes, fried risotto-and-mushroom bites and prime rib on small pieces of bread.
Then, while … (3 comments)

nashville area: Need to Nosh Now? Try Nashville's Noshville! Now say that Five Times Really Fast! - 03/13/09 08:40 AM
Whenever I need a quick sandwich, I love to go to Noshville's in Green Hills.  It's convenient, it's near my office, the sandwiches are delicious and it's an all around great place to eat!
Definitely try the potato salad, potato cakes, matzo ball soup, the egg salad, the fries, the pickles, and if you have any room left, the CHEESECAKE!!!
The original Noshville's is located over on Broadway and now there are THREE other locations!  I'm not going to type them all out here, but check out their website for all of the information!
Noshville touts itself as an authentic New … (1 comments)

nashville area: Keith Urban... What Else Can I Say But WOW!!! - 03/13/09 08:13 AM
I went to an amazing show the other night - my sweet friend Barbara took me to see a  Keith Urban show at the Rutledge - wow is he fantastic! Drool, drool, drool.
Now, let me tell you - I am NOT usually a fan of country music.  I don't know what it is, maybe because I am a Nashville native - you know, was born and raised here, saw those country singers trying to make it on Music Row for years and years - maybe that did something to my brain.
Or maybe it was the songs about 18-wheelers and … (0 comments)

nashville area: Miss Manners is Sizing Up the Competition! - 03/12/09 04:52 AM
We have many discussions here on ActiveRain about how to treat our clients and other Realtors and recently I have been thinking about a particular topic that provides some confusion to me.
The issue here is previewing homes before listing a home in a particular neighborhood.  You know, to "check out" the competition.  But really, how nice of a move is this?
The issue came up because I know I will be getting a listing in a particular neighborhood, so I was checking out what else was on the market.  And I was thinking, hmmm, to price it correctly I want … (4 comments)

nashville area: Nashville, TN voted #1 Manliest City in the U.S. - wait a minute, WHAT?!?! - 03/09/09 02:30 AM
Well, my friend Paula told me about this.  It's true.  Nashville, Tennessee was just voted the #1 Manliest City in the U.S.
Apparently for our love of professional sports teams, drag racing, monster trucks and our lack of home furnishing stores...
Here's the article in the Chicago Tribune:  Manliest City
As a single female, I'm not sure how I feel about this label. And I have a lot of single female friends here in Nashville as well.  I mean, if it's such a manly city, then how come we all can't seem to find good men?  LOL - on with your day...

Anyway, here is the Green Hills Condo Market Report for January 2009.  Nashville's real estate market is slow right now, but there ARE some properties being purchased...  ENJOY!

nashville area: December 2008: Nashville's Oak Hill Market Report - 01/03/09 03:22 PM
So the results are in:  December's Oak Hill Closings!  Very interesting group of them actually!
If you are one of the 31 current sellers or are thinking of selling your home in Nashville's Oak Hill Subdivision, the homes on this market report show that the highest dollar per square foot is going to the renovated homes.  To obtain top dollar, you may want to make sure yours is up to par.

The Omandale Drive house was completely renovated, but a little closer to I-65 than the renovated home on Evans Road - could that have made the difference in … (0 comments)

nashville area: The Top 10 Things I Learned in 2008, or How to Survive As a Realtor in Middle Tennessee! - 01/01/09 01:35 PM
Okay, so this post will mostly be tongue-in-cheek... and most of you know that I also teach piano lessons in Nashville, as well as have mobile music teachers as of the Fall 2008, so I don't solely rely on Real Estate.  BUT, just for laughs, let's take a look at the Top 10 Things I Learned in 2008 (from a Realtor's Perspective in the Middle Tennessee area)!
I prefer doing this from 10 down to 1, so.....
10.  PB&J for Lunch and Beans and Rice for Dinner - Really Not Such Bad Meals!
9.  Keep smiling, just keeeeeepppppp smiling!  Attitude … (12 comments)

nashville area: Bricktops Restaurant in Nashville on West End! - 12/28/08 02:58 PM
I have had the pleasure of dining with friends and family on several different occasions at Bricktop's on West End in Nashville.
Although I sorely miss Houston's which was a Nashville staple for years, Bricktop's offers great American cuisine for around $20/person (lunchtime that is) - expect to pay a bit more for dinner.
I have not been disappointed with anything I have tried at Bricktop's, from the fish tacos to the ribs!  Great chicken salad as well, plus a killer key lime pie and also I have heard that "The Chocolate Chip" is also amazing - a chocolate chip cookie … (1 comments)

nashville area: The Trees of Christmas at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville! - 12/28/08 02:07 PM

Since I was a little girl growing up in Nashville, TN, I have visited Cheekwood Botanical Gardens time and time again!  As the daughter of an avid gardener, I spent many a spring, summer, fall AND winter day on the beautiful grounds of the Cheek Family Estate.
From hunting Easter eggs to having a surprise 18th birthday party there, Cheekwood has always been a place of happy activities - they always manage to have a lot to do and see throughout the year.
It was a real treat on December 23rd to be able to go with my Mom and … (1 comments)

Well, Oak Hill, November 2008's Market Report looks remarkedly similar to Octobers!  Only two closings to speak of.  However, it IS looking more promising for December.  There are 38 active listings in Oak Hill ranging in price from $314,000 to $4.9 million and 5 of them have contracts on them!  So maybe things are picking up a little!!!

nashville area: Enjoy a Cup of Coffee, a Dessert or a Meal at Nashville's Fido in Hillsboro Village! - 12/13/08 09:25 AM

For those of us who remember Hillsboro Village back in the day when Fido's WAS REALLY A PET SHOP, well, we all know that this part of town has come a long way baby!
Last known as Jones Pet Shop, this ultra trendy coffee shop, glorified snack bar and restaurant is a great place to go hang out, drink a cup of coffee or tea, have a yummy dessert or even go for the full meal, all the while conversing with your favorite hipsters and Vandy students galore!
One thing that I like about Fido's is that you get to … (3 comments)

nashville area: California Pizza Kitchen Comes to Nashville's Green Hills! - 12/13/08 09:11 AM
So I FINALLY went to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch a couple of weeks ago.  When I had seen it previously, it was always packed out and I HATE to wait for a seat!  Anybody else out there with me on that one?
Anyway, I had a Thai Crunch Salad, which is probably not the "right" or "best" thing to get there.  Here is the description of it - Shredded Napa cabbage, chilled-grilled chicken breast, julienne cucumbers, edamame, crispy wontons, peanuts, cilantro, julienne carrots, red cabbage and green onions tossed with a lime-cilantro dressing. Topped with crispy rice sticks and Thai … (0 comments)

nashville area: Asian Fusion the Pei Wei Way - Nashville's Green Hills Newest Asian Food! - 12/13/08 08:50 AM
I think that once upon a time I ate at a Pei Wei Restaurant in Southern California.  But this Asian restaurant has also made its appearance in the Middle Tennessee area - I know there is one in Brentwood and Murfreesboro, most likely in other areas as well.
The Pei Wei that I am writing about is in the new Hill Shopping Center, just across the way from Whole Foods in Green Hills.
To me, it's just a standard Asian fusion type of restaurant and you can get something quick for around $10 in Nashville, which is nice.
I remember that … (1 comments)

nashville area: Dragon Park in Nashville - a Haven for Children and Art Lovers Near Vanderbilt! - 10/31/08 10:29 AM
Affectionately known as "Dragon Park", Fannie Mae Dees Park in the Vanderbilt area of Nashville, TN, has been delighting children and art lovers alike for over 25 years!  Located at 2400 Blakemore Ave. in the 37212 zip code, Dragon Park is a small open air park with a playground and a huge mosaic dragon!
If you look closely on the dragon, a mosaic masterpiece, you will see loads of characters, from animals to people to magical sea creatures!  It was the creation of Pedro P. Silva in the late 70s and was spruced up in 1999.  As a child, I can … (4 comments)

nashville area: The Steinway Gallery in Nashville - A Pianist's Dream! - 10/27/08 02:23 PM
When I was growing up, I dreamed of being on stage singing and playing the piano.  I kept that dream and went to college and earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance.  And now I still play, even get the chance to play around town some!
My favorite instrument to play on is an acoustic Steinway.  It was the first "Real" purchase I made after I graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana.  I own a Model O Steinway Grand from around 1925.  And I absolutely love it!
And, since my favorite instrument is the Steinway piano, I am thrilled that … (2 comments)

nashville area: September 2008: Market Report for Downtown Nashville Condo Closings! - 10/15/08 12:52 PM
Downtown Condo Living:  It's the new suburbia!  LOL... But really, living downtown has become a very fashionable thing to do in Nashville, TN as of late.  Walk or ride your scooter to work, hang out in the bars and clubs at night and walk home (with friends, please).  Or maybe go dancin' at Roberts and get yourself a new pair of cowboy boots while 'yer' at it!
And of course, the condo:  no yardwork, make friends easily, work out in the building - there are a lot of amenities that downtown Nashville condos are offering these days!  And have you seen the … (0 comments)

nashville area: Nashville's Sweet Tooth Can Be Satisfied at the Green Hills Maggie Moo's - 10/09/08 03:13 AM
Does anyone out there NOT know about Maggie Moo's?
When I was in college in Louisiana, we had this place called the Marble Slab - it was the first that I remember of these kinds of ice cream stores.  I was a poor college student, so a venture to the Marble Slab was quite a treat!
Anyway, fast forward back to this century (hehehe).  And right here in the Green Hills area of Nashville, TN, we have Maggie Moo's!  (There are also other locations around Middle Tennessee as well).  They also use a large slab of marble to mix toppings into … (2 comments)
