Repairing window in that old Fullerton house - get help online
Old Fullerton homes are very classic, but for the first time home repair enthusiast those old double hung sash windows can be dawnting.  Where do you start? What is involved?  Can I do it?
The first place to start is the web.  Yes, the internet - just "google" or look up "double hung windows" and follow the results to find repair instruction, explanations, and even videos with experts.  We did that, then tackled the job on our Fullerton home (1925 vintage).  It was a lot of work and took much longer than we expected - but the two of us got it done.  Now the windows work just like they were supposed to - and we have the satisfaction of knowing that we can do it.
Some of the tasks are much better handled with 2 people, and some of the replacement weights are hard to find.  Unless you are lucky and all items are still in the walls, be prepared to search for those weights.  Ebay has them but I can not bring myself to pay freight on cast iron weights from the east coast.  I preferred to try old hardware and antique stores (found it in Orange).
Altogether a good project ... more
