Conan O'Brien may be getting the boot from NBC, much the same way the fictional character Max Prince is dismissed by NBC in Neil Simon's play Laughter on the 23rd Floor.  Set in 1953, the production centers around Max, the  funniest comedian on televison, and his writers.
Laughter on the 23rd Floor is based on Simon's days of writing for Sid Caesar's TV gig, Your Show of Shows and the characters are based on real people:

Laughter on the 23rd Floor is running through February 7, 2010 at the Addison Theatre Centre, located at 15650 Addison Road in Addison, Texas. Performance times are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2 PM (February 6 only) and 8:00 PM, and Sundays at 2:00 PM.
