Home Buyer Tip - Homes Built on a Slab
In some parts of the country, many or most homes are built on a slab -- ie. no basement.  The home rests on a concrete foundation.  Some builders of yesteryear built homes on a slab to also make them more affordable.  Sometimes, the soil and/or rock formations would not support a basement.  Earthquakes, water tables and many other factors can also influence whether a particular home, neighborhood, or geographic area will have a basement or not.
Here are just a few practical considerations to take into account regarding homes built on a slab:
Lack of storage.  This can be huge.  Even if you aren't a pack rat, storing your items either in the garage or unfinished attic (with perhaps only a ladder access) can prove to not only be quite challenging, but also downright stressful. Cold on the feet.  Slab homes can be cold on the feet in the winter, even when walking on carpet.
