Sidewalks in and of themselves don't make a city walkable. Because of it's topography, San Diego is not the most walkable city I've visited. However, there are many areas of San Diego that are walkable, such as the beaches, Mission Valley, and downtown at the waterfront.
I enjoy a weekly walk along the waterfront just to see what cruise ships are in town, what war ships are docked at the Coronao Naval Air Station, and what new public art has been installed for a six-month run.
Ever since Petco Park was built downtown in East Village for the San Diego Padres in the early 2000s, there seems to be a proliferation of street performers who have taken up residence. It's beginning to remind me of New Orleans and the French Quarter, especially which I see performers/public art that looks like public art/performers:
