The mountains in Upstate South Carolina are a beautiful area of peaceful forests, scenic lakes, rushing whitewater rapids and cascading waterfalls and friendly people. And nestled in the mountains of SC is the wonderful town of Salem, with views such as this picture I took below.

Salem is a town located in Oconee County in Upstate South Carolina. Salem has existed as a community since before 1900, but was officially incorporated as a town in 1951.
The population was 126 at the 2000 census and in 2007 was 131. It is pretty small since it covers only 0.8 square miles but actually refers to a larger area. It is a beautiful area that should never become crowded since so much of Oconee County is in the Sumter National Forest.
But since Salem is only 2 hours from Atlanta and a short drive to Greenville, it could be the perfect place to live. And Salem has a pleasant 4 season climate with mild summers and winters.
