National Grandparents Day - Celebrate on the Commander in Rockland County, NY

Did you know that the first Sunday after Labor Day is Grandparents Day?   I'm a grandmother of 20+ grandchildren and had no idea that there was a day honoring me.
Marian McQuade was the founder of National Grandparents Day.   She and her husband the parents of 15 children and the grandparents of over 40, began a campaign to set aside a day for grandparents. She hoped the day would have a threefold purpose:
To honor grandparents
To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children's children. To help make children aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer. Thru her efforts, Grandparents Day was declared a national holiday by President Jimmy Carter in 1978
Grandparents Day was meant to be a family day. Use it to create some of your own family traditions centered around the seniors in your family.  Celebrate by holding a family reunion or just a family gathering promoting inter-generational interaction.  Cash in on the wisdom, knowledge and history of those seniors in your life and promote a spirit of love and respect for your elders, in your children.  ... more
