Addison Pacesetters Learn About Metrocrest Social Services at Dunn Bros. Coffeehouse
Addison Pacesetters (Addison, Texas residents 50+ years of age) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. Coffeehouse on Belt Line Road and learn about the Town of Addison.  This month, Nicole Newcomb, Director of Volunteer and Special Programs at Metrocrest Social Services, spoke to us.  
The mission of Metrocrest Social Services is to provide short-term emergency services to improve life situations of residents in Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Farmers Branch and zip 75287 in Denton County, Texas.
Here are some interesting tidbits from Nicole's presentation.
Nicole used to work for the Town of Addison in the Special Events department and has been with Metrocrest Social Services (MSS) for about 3 months. As a liaison to MSS while on Addison's Employee Action Committee, she learned about the organization. Since she's working towards a Master Degree in Public Administration with a specialty in non-profits, MSS struck a chord with her and she switched jobs. MSS offers the following programs Emergency assistance (rent, utilities, food, clothing, eyeglasses, prescriptions) Employment assistance (job referrals, interviewing skills, resume writing assistance, online access for job search) Information & referrals to other agencies Food stamp/child support assistance Season programs (school shoes, school supplies, Thanksgiving food, holiday gifts and ... more
