Getting Ready for the National Christmas Tree
The National Christmas tree has been cut and is on its way to Washington, BUT! it will be stopping over in Dahlonega, Ga on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (November 24,25 and 26) for mountain festivities! Dahlonega is throwing out the red carpet for this auspicious event, which includes live music, craft booth, period costumed town folk and I am sure that there will be some hot apple cider somewhere in the neighborhood. The Court House Square in Dahlonega is very "Currier and Ives" every Christmas but the shop owners are really going all out for this once in a lifetime event! Take a break from all the Thanksgiving feasting and wander around this quaint North Georgia Mountain Town and say Hello to our National Christmas Tree that gave its all to deck our halls! 
Jeff Underwood, a Dahlonega native, was choosen to transport the tree by the National Parks Service in  November, 2009. The trip takes nearly a month, from Wyoming to Washington, DC, a 3,500-mile route that will detour into Dahlonega. The 67-foot tall Engleman spruce started out in Teton County, Wyoming and the theme of Wyoming's tree once it gets to Washington and is decorated will be "Wyoming- Forever West"
