City, School District & County to Launch Youth Safe Haven in Havenscourt Community: Thanks to a grant from the Milton S. Eisenhower Foundation, the City, School District and County celebrated the opening of an international community policing/mentoring model in the Havenscourt community, which has some of the highest number of incidents of violent crime, domestic violence calls and incidents of child abuse. This community policing/academic mentoring model allows us to employ community policing problem solving strategies while wrapping a safety net around our children. To start, 50 students will receive daily homework assistance, participate in enrichment activities, learn life skills and benefit from a trusting, consistent relationship with a trained mentor.
