Giving back - does anyone know about Kiva.org?
Just sharing one of my favorite things to do - help people! I'm sure some of you know about Microfinance companies - but for those don't -
Wiki says: More broadly, it is a movement whose object is "a world in which as many poor and near-poor households as possible have permanent access to an appropriate range of high quality financial services, including not just credit but also savings, insurance, and fund transfers."[1] Those who promote microfinance generally believe that such access will help poor people out of poverty. I've loaned through a company called Kiva.org for a few years now - and I urge more of us to do so!
How does it work? I loan $25 dollars to someone in need - they repay it back over time - and then I get to loan it out again! I love it and it makes me feel good to do it!
Over the last three years - I've loaned to a Fruit and Vegetable Seller in Cambodia, a Tailor in Peru, a Taxicab driver in Vietnam, a Used Clothing Retailer in Mexico - the list goes on. The great thing is - you can reloan ... more
