Memorial Day -- Beyond the Beach and the Barbecues
This long awaited weekend for so many people in a beleaguered, weather-beaten nation is about so much more than family gatherings, barbecues and overindulgence in food and drink. It's about the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom. I'm so proud to live in a country where we take for granted the right to free speech, even when the words that pour from our mouths are stunning in their vitriol. We take for granted our right to choose those who govern, to practice our religion without persecution, to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All these freedoms have come at great cost, none of them free.
