                                                          A Word to the Wise Homeowner
Some wonderful and inexpensive insurance policies are currently available by many public utility companies which can often save homeowners thousands of dollars in catastrophic situations. I, as a homeowner and a Realtor, have availed myself of some of these programs, and have been grateful for the results.
1.  Coverage for your furnace.  This is often covered in an inexpensive program.  Call your local utility company for information. In the Pascack Valley, many homes are covered by PSEG, which offers this program.
2.  Exterior Water Line Coverage.  Should one of the pipes in your front lawn burst, it could cost you thousands of dollars.  Many local water companies offer insurance policies for a few dollars a year.
3.  Oil Tank Insurance.  This is often offered by your local oil company who supplies your oil.  Get as much insurance as if offered,  In worst case scenarios, remediating a leaking oil tank could cost as much as $100,000.
