Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Out In The Woods
This is the perfect time of year to get outdoors and have some fun. It’s cool enough to enjoy a walk or run at your local MetroPark, go exploring in the colorful autumn leaves, sing around a campfire. But beware…just when you thought it was safe to go out in the woods…..IT”S still out there. I’m talking about Poison Ivy. That ever present weed that comes in so many different forms,is still lurking about. You know the phrase, “leaves of three, let it be”, but another identifying characteristic of poison ivy is the notched leaves. It is usually green in the summer, but can go to brown or red in the autumn. It usually grows low to the ground, but can be found in vine form wrapped around trees. It is a runner, so that when you destroy some of it, the underground runner may still be intact and come back again. Your pets can bring it in on their fur if they’ve been exposed and some people are sensitive to the ivy if it is inhaled when burned in a campfire or bonfire.
