Addison Pacesetters Learn About the Visitor Services Department at Dunn Bros.
Addison Pacesetters (Addison, Texas residents 50+ years of age) meet the first Wednesday of each month at Dunn Bros. on Belt Line Road and learn about the Town of Addison. This month, Bob Phillips, Director of the Visitor Services Department, spoke to us.
Here are some interesting tidbits from Bob's presentation:
Bob has been in the tourism business his whole life. His family owned Aquarena Springs in San Marcos. There was a famous diving pig working there with Bob. Bob oversees the Addison Conference Centre and the Visit Addison facility. Selling Addison to outsiders is easy. We are midway between the coasts, have 22 hotels and 170 restaurants in addition to the Cavaneaugh Flight Museum and the Mary Kay Museum.  There is ample meeting space for conferences, too. Tourism advertising is paid for by the 13% hotel tax on rooms (6% goes to the state and 7% to Addison). This amounts to approximately $3.5M collected annually that Addison can spend on promotion of the Town of Addison, the conference center, arts, and historical preservation.
